I've been getting quite a few messages concerning the wiring of the CPII and BeastX.
This setup does work if done correctly, but is very easy to mis-wire.

So to save some grief here is the wiring for a 120* CCPM AILGN using @ least a 7 channel Rx.

From your Rx to the CPII

RX AUX1 >>>>> CPII RCV3
RX ELEV >>>>> CPII RCV1
RX AILE >>>>>> CPII RCV2
------------------------------------------

BeastX ELE / DI1 >>>>> CPII SVO1
BeastX AIL / CHS >>>>> CPII SVO2
BeastX AUX / PIT ( RED lead) >>>>> CPII SVO3

The other 2 signal lines for tail gain and rudder are installed to the RX.

Hope this helps some of you.

Hi

I am new to this hobby and this forum so please excuse my question if it appears very dumb.

I took delivery of my KDS Flymentor 3D systen today from an Ebay seller in Hong Kong.

I have 2 problems when trying to install this on my Blade 400 heli.

1 - When I have the system plugged into my Laptop and my Spektrum AR6100 receiver it gets really hot on the underside of the case. Is this normal ?

2 - NO matter what I try I cant get the Laptop to connect via the USB to Helipal. I only ever get the message "KDS Link line not found"

Any help would be much appreciated
Regards

Co-pilot II performance change. Is it the trees?

Hi all, I posted my first experience with the CP 2 here and as you can tell from my response, (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=407953) it worked great out of the box. Today was my first time flying since then, I had to replace the swashplate on my Trex 500. There wasn't a crash but, one on the ball links was loose and had broken inside the swash when I tried to remove it.
So what changed? I replaced the swashplate with a new align. There is a little bit of play between the upper and lower plates on this new model. I don't think there was any play on the old one..I'll check later. A few ball links were very loose, too loose for comfort, so I swapped them out with new. I had standard align CF blades on my FBL head. I picked up a set of 3g CF blades to test the difference. If this is it I like the standard ones. That's what I flew with today. Also, since I flew, the leaves have filled in nicely at the park. I fly in an area the size of a football field surrounded by mature trees.
Now , to get to the way the CP 2 responded. I was kind of fighting it actually. Sometimes it would tend to drift forward, sometimes backward, right left etc. Other times it would level nicely. It changed with direction the heli was headed. It felt kind of unnerving at times. I'm flying with the switch off and auto at 6. It just seemed it took way to long to level when I would let go of the sticks.
The little bit of play in the swash might be undesirable however, I don't think that is it.
Do you think the trees filling in would do this? I'm flying in a large box.

Thanks

Hi, i have just installed a flymentor onto my Trex 450 sport V2. First impressions are that it is really very good. Before i fitted it i felt i was going to crash every time i flew but now i feel much more relaxed and am enjoying flying and learning.
My question is regarding setting the balance gain. As i am using the original gyro i don't have a spare channel on my DX6i to control the balance gain from the TX. .I have set it to 65 using the PPC, as i understand it when i lift off the green LED is on (position mode) and when i get higher it switches to balance mode automatically, does this mean that i cant adjust the gain for position mode and balance mode separately? Hope this makes sense.
Thanks for any advice, cheers Philip

Hey gang the more i fly my bird the more i find small tings i need to adress i had high speed tail wag after i adressed the head speed to low. So i moved the link in one hole on my servo arm.I also noticed when i built it up the first time i put the servo arm on the drivers side instead of the passenger side when i orriginaly set it up 450 pro

So when i moved the the servo horn 180 degrees of corse it now makes the radio futaba 8fgs backwards. When i set the radio rudder to reverse the gryo makes it spinn (ie the gryo is running backwards).

Is the FIX to reverse the GRYO and the RADIO ?

I changed the FM gryo to reverse but i just cant seem to get a handle on it.I want to make sure i have the radio and FM set back up befor i try to trim the linkage

hope im not to confusing

Thanks you Bob

I have chosen the correct servo type for my tail servo and the gyro compensates correct, so it seems like the IMU is the "problem". Any suggestions? Add more double sided tape under the IMU?

I have been ironing out BUGS on my exi 450p seems my head speed was to low and it was occleating. So now im using the simple GOV mode on my castle ice50lite and have set a 0-45-65-65-65 th on tx i have tried 70 and 75 percent curv as well

now im getting a good head speed but i have fast tail wag.

I take off and dail out the wag but it doesnt stop untill 2 clicks from RATE mode =52percent Even then i will get a shudder type wag if i hit the rudder and let off untill it catches back up.

when my head speed was not correct and my pitch curve was messed up the tail worked fine!

any ideas ?

thanks Bob

You must still use the FM gyro,it contains the 3 gyro's used for stabilization,
but you disconnect the green and grey wires from the reciever and plug the GY401 in there place.
*******************************************************************************************
I ran across this item from a while ago and I am doing this exact same thing, with the exception I mounted the GY 401 upside down so I could see the lights and switches on the gyro, is this acceptable to do. Thanks Ivor

CP II vs SK720

Ok, I just read a little about the Skookum SK720. I had NO IDEA it had a built in self leveling feature. This is the only reason I use co pilot 2 on my current heli.

My question is, is the SK720 better if you are in need a FBL unit? (I like beastX.)
I need the emergency bail-out function. Skookum seems to make use of their gyro system instead on IR sensors...Hmmm. They also stated that a GPS unit is soon to come where-as it will not only self level, it will hold it's position.
That sounds way better than having a co pilot 2...puts everything in one package. Otherwise, I have to use a beastX, Rx and the CP2 to have a FBL w/ a bail out function.

Basically, it sounds exactly like a co pilot 2 + rx + FBL unit are all in one. That sounds fantastic!
Anyone use an SK720 and have any input on this?

I pretty much don't get anything of what's written @ page 11 in the manual. If you can help me I'll buy you a beer in heaven... :cheers

Here is a picture of the page in the manual: http://nnlp.no/wookong.jpg

I might have more questions too about this Wookong, so if you don't mind I'll ask as I go forward...

I want to plug in the blue wire and set FM gain from the Tx,but there are warnings all over not to do it unless you know what you are doing. Well I dont so I thought I would ask :)

1) Is the gain on the Helibal and the Tx proprotonal ?? 70% on helibal to 70% on the Tx?

2) With only two points on the switch, and being a noobie, should I have
(a) positioning mode and FM off
(b) positioning mode and balancing mode
(c) balancing mode and FM off

Hi Freaks,

I have a question bother me from a while, and i hope here someone could give me some answers.... (i know you'll do!)...

I'm not a very good pilot yet, still making hovering and some simple manouvres, but i love build up my helis.

I was wondering if it might be possible and make any sense to install two additional Gyro on the heli for auto stabilize the airelon and elevator.

I think it will help to avoid drifting, and move in a specific direction only with stick input....

(if I've understood correctly, it will be pretty much as a flybarless system, isn't it?)

If yes, do you think it will work also if i remove the paddles and flybar?
This system will consume more power than a kit produced by some company for flight stabilization, but my question is just: "will it work??"

Thanks in advance for any reply....

Happy flights!!!!!

I can fly! I can fly!! Now I got that out the way, Co-Pilot II is great! Today is the first day that I really flew. I can fly ok but whenever I'd push it, I would end up in a crash (maybe I can't fly ). My flying changed more to more of a crash prevention than a productive lesson.

A while back, I met this very friendly pilot at a club that I'm thinking about joining. His heli was a Trex 700 fbl nitro, a beautiful machine no doubt. We spoke about getting into the hobby, learning and crashing and so on. I asked him how many crashes he had with his heli? His response was "none". Then he showed me why, it was the Co-Pilot system. He asked me what does an average crash cost me on my 450? I told him and he replied, "well for the cost of a couple of crash repairs you can own a co-pilot". He described the system as having an instructor flick the switch and kind of take over when in trouble.

A couple weeks ago I purchased very nice Trex 500 fbl and have since upgraded the whole tail to TT and also added metal grips etc. The same day I also ordered a Co-Pilot II combo 2. I shelled out a lot of money for my new heli and I hate crashes like everyone else. Why should the result of an error be a smashed heli? I want to flick the switch and try again. I feel that crashes impede the learning process.

Today I actually flew like on the sim for the first time, with a little help of course.
