I have read that the power wires for CC ESCs should be no more than 12 inches unless you include a set of caps for every extra inch. What is the score with Kontroniks is it still 12 inches, more or less? Any ideas?

Official recommendation is NO extension.
So keep it as short as possible.

So could you please tell what is the original length is and what is the average battery length of wire to give a grand total please.

I can give you jives length, batteries has no standard
But what i wrote is stated in the manual. Extra length will wear on the esc long term. If you ask kontronik they will rather see you shorten the cable and use bullets so no Y cables, but thats perhaps to the extreme...

I think the CC ICE fiasco still has people spooked so many are worried about wire length, additional capacitors, etc.
IMO, just take MrMel's (and Kontronik's) recommendation and keep wire lengths as short as possible, but don't be overly worried about it. It seems the CC ICE problems were caused by shoddy components and possibly design flaws. I'm not convinced wire length, capacitors, etc had much to do with the failures. |

As Fredrik said: No extension and that's it.
(Exceptions prove the rule, Justin. Additional capacitors: These have not only positive effects on the FETs chance of survival. ...Although some manufacturers give the impression, as would be the salvation in the number of extra caps. A vendor who vehemently offers extra caps has a problem with his product. Tom

I am proud owner of new version 11 120 Heli Jive. No "Y" cables got my attention! Have 22 gauge feed to Spektrum TM1000 telemetry unit planned. Used for monitoring in flight, flight pack voltage. I fly by this voltage rather than by a set time. What do folks at Kontronik say about this kind of extension? Any recommendations? |

The reason for extra caps is to suppress ripple voltage produced by the rapid current changes as the FETs switch. Longer wires have larger inductance and thus cause more ripple. If you are not extending wires or making long series adapters you should be OK.

I knew reason for long high current wire length being critical but can't "picture" effect of long wires parallel connected even if not drawing any significant current. Is interesting but if not an issue with mfg. that is great! What I wanted to know.

Mr Mel, could you be so kind as to measure the length from where your power leads exit the jive to where they terminate at the battery ie including your battery wires that would give me the best over all indication as to what I need to do. Many thanks for everything- and not just in this thread either.
