Default How did you install the white grounding wire that comes with the kit?

Haven't seen it on anyone's pictures really. But there is a short white ground wire included. I understand it has to be installed between the boom and frame if I am not mistaken or somewhere else? So where did you install yours?

Vlad, i found mine to short to run it from where i wanted it, so i got the mikado kit and used that. Same place as the 6hv, under boom to motor mount.

This is how I installed mine...

http://www.helifreak.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=161

I used some goop on the top of the tensioner mount to get the wire closer to the frame and out of the way of the tail servo/rod.

I hope it helps.

I ran mine down left side covered with heatshrink to blend in a little better.
Then through the frame and drilled bottom of boom between front and rear clamps.

Sand bottom of boom and tape it there don't pin holes, other end attach to the lower mast block, one of the screws there. Then test motor block and tail if they are connected with a multimeter

Are you saying you tape it to the sanded part of the boom, you do not install it with a screw/bolt?

You don't need to take the wire to the bearing blocks (mainshaft or motor)... you can attach it in one of the Boom Clamp bolts... just sand the frame to better contact.. do not forget that Carbon Fiber it conductive, so you can connect the wire anywhere.

Best Regards.

+1 Thats what I did. Electrically its the same point as motor mount screws because cf is conductive. Just check with a ohmeter that you have continuity.

No when you drill a hole you weaken the structure, electrical tape around the boom to make contact is enough if done right as there are no stress on the cable and its easy if you need to get a new boom after a fancy crash

I prefer to set it in the block as the cable is long enough, from there its the frame which conduct to the rest of the metal parts to make the frame and rest grounded.

Before I drilled the hole in my boom, I went though trying to find another method that was as easy and reliable. I couldn't find one that worked all the time.

I'm not so certain I would trust tape to reliably hold an electrical connection over anything longer than a few minutes. If Compass is not recommending drilling holes in the boom then they also need to revise their tail case pinning method. The pinning method punctures two holes in the boom. With that in mind, I honestly don't think one hole between clamping structures is going to cause a failure of the boom. If it causes a failure, Compass needs to come up with a grounding method (read metal boom clamps) that allows no holes or allows clamping a wire to the boom at the clamp.

I use thin enamled wire clamped under the boom mounts, small sanded patch on the boom and to a screw in the frame. Both my 6HV and Protos were done that way and it works great.

I respectfully disagree with Klaus here (first time, ever, I think).

I have drilled holes in the booms of helicopters to ground them for years (starting with the old Trex 600E five years or so ago).

I have never had a problem in doing so, structural or otherwise.

A rift/scratch can, if you fly really hard the tail is under hard stress and the tape and sand metod even Sebastian use, sanding with a fine paper don't make rifts and scratches. Electrical tape done right hold well and is safe.

I am so lucky i still have the old prototype tail which is longer at top and bottom so I drilled at bottom inside of both clamps but I will not do that between the clamps on a new boom.

When it comes to safety I take the extra mile because my entire family comes with me to the field, believe you me I considered several methods and ended with what I considered safest and most serviceable.

Edit: bel your picture of the perfect clamp looks like the prototypes still its weakness is the fact it's metal and clamping gets worse over time because it bends, plastic clamps better and is cheaper so we get cheaper parts and kits

My perfect setup would be a spring clamp attaching between the tail clamps for the grounding wire so it's easy to service and safe to mount, I think I will make one of those for when I start using the production boom

I guess if tape isn't holding(think hot/humid summer) a cable tie should do the trick.
