We have the spectators asking dumb questions... thread and the Do you ever get 20 questions when you fly thread. How about some best, worst, and interesting responses from the spectators.
Best response: nice chick walks by across the street notices my mCPx with orange E-Flite colored blades sitting on top of my car while I'm getting ready to fly (my usual position). She smiles and says, "I love your chopper!" Worst response: while I'm changing battery a guy (the cocky type) with his dog comes by and says, "did it break?" I look puzzled for a few seconds and say, "no, just changing battery". "How long does the battery last?" "4 mins" "that's it?" "I do aerobatics [don't think he knows what 3D is] and that's INTENSE 4-min flight each time. A bigger battery will weigh down the bird and I can't hold my breath that long" "hmmm... I guess that makes sense! [like I don't know what I'm talking about]" "I have this many batteries to charge and fly all day non-stop [showing him my bag of 12 batteries]" "well, good luck [walking away]" "thanks. [but I don't need it]" something funny: a group of early teens and pre-teens claps while I spot-land on my usual landing pad no bigger than my alum carrying case Here's another one. Dad and son come to play soccer at the field on Father's Day. Usually, it's the kid who's interested to see me fly. This time it's the dad. Son keeps calling out "dad, dad!" to kick the ball over while dad keeps watching me fly. |

Best response from a spectator, if you can call her this was from a blind woman, who found the heli "very interesting" and "awesome". For my part I found her interest awesome and tried to explain a bit what I was doing. This was just a nice experience on different levels.
I was glad her dog found the mcpx less interesting though (German Shephard). |

I was flying in the park and had a kid run up all excited and instantly asked me how much my MCPX costs. I told him and he pretty much begged to try it out. Reluctantly I pull out my beater and give him a run down on my DX8. Two attempts to take off and he couldn't get it off the ground. Quickly he returns my radio to me (still at half throttle) and says, "that's too hard," as he ran away.

I was flying in the field/walking path by my house and this old lady comes up to me and tells me that my pet bird is so well trained.

I was flying in an open field about 100 feet from the road. I hear a car drive and someone yell out, "NERD!" I just smiled.
