Default Review - GP Exhaust Pipes - 55 and 91

There was a bit of a hiatus in 90 pipe availability for a while after the CYE MP5 disappeared off the market - recently the Outage 90 and ALign 90 pipes have appeared. To join their ranks a range of exhaust pipes handmade in Germany are just coming onto the market courtesy of German Performance Exhausts.

I have had a look first hand at their 91 Nitropower pipes for the Trex700 and YS91 motors and also the Nitro 55 pipe for OS/YS/TT 50s. They seem very nicely made with a good quality chrome plating and weigh in around the same size as the equivalent Hatori - they don't come with the complex Hatori header/O-ring system and just bolt onto the engine with a couple of high-tensile M4 steel bolts.

I've had one on the Compass Odin for the last few weeks and mates have had them opn the T700 and MA Stratus (all with OS91 SZ non PS) - I reckon I gained an extra 70HS on the Odin and we generally reckon power wise they're equivalent to the Hatori.

I filmed a little in-the-box video comparing them with the ALign 91 and Hatori 938 pipes as well as a short flight sequence on the Odin so you can have a listen - I'm darn sure we'll be seeing a lot more from them in the future !!

PS - I think Bob's gonna try the Nitropower 55 on his Knight 3D build

Wow those are great exhaust man! How are the performance and the price compared to what is available locally?

I don't know what the price will be in the US - my guess is that it will be similar to Hatori pipes and my early experience is that they are similar in performance - they do seem to have noticeably more oomph on my heli than the Align did. I haven't tried an Outrage pipe.

We were recently appointed the exclusive distributor for North America of GP Exhaust products. Our first order is being produced in Germany now. We will have a complete inventory mid-May.

Our website will have all the GP Exhaust info this coming week. We will be offering a special deal on GP products to all Compass owners for a short period of time.

Hey Mercuriell,

Where were your punch 'n flips? They were too cool,(Köden speak lol "me too") It was windy down there as the Vid shows "audibly" so it seems. We have been more than impressed with this pipe it really does deliver it in spades so to speak! Köden is the most power hungry little "demon" lol and he was more than impressed Big volume pipe which delivers for sure, and yes I would and have paid for them myself gladly I would love to try the 50 size one a.s.a.p (Great Power/Good Value)

Cheers Chris

Default Trial of Nitro Power 55 pipe

Got around to fixing the GP Exhaust NitroPower 55 pipe onto the the OS50 SX on the Knight 3D - looks very smart - just used a smear of high temp silicone as per manufacturer's recommendation for a gasket. Both the 55 and the 91 pipes resulted in distinctly higher idle/throttle hold speeds than their Align counterparts so maybe the engines breathe easier - doesn't sound much different to me but I'd guess a little more power - I'd be guessing ~5% and didn't need to touch the mixture. Time will tell wrt durability but so far I'm real impressed and look forward to Bob's experiences

Talking GP

Jamfreak, you´re right! John said "Manfred" in the review video for the 90 pipe, meaning Manfred Höhn of
Höhn Modellbau, who is tho sole distributor for Webra in Germany and I think the whole EU......

Yes, Manfred Hoehn makes the pipes - no, they are not Webra pipes. These pipes are hand made by Manfred who although associated with Webra for many years, formed his own company, GP Exhaust, to produce them - they are specifically designed and optimised for US/UK/Australian markets who use high nitro 20-30% fuels hence the name NitroPower - Webra exhausts are for domestic European markets who use lower nitro fuels 5-15%.

Can't judge a book by the cover !! :glasses2:

Hi John

The Knight 50 looks spiffy along with the GP pipe and thank you for your builds and videos.
My own preference in the 50 size class would be the Webra 55 Heli engine because I like the idea of using lower cost lower nitro or FAI fuel.
There are some neat 50 size helis out there on the market.
The Knight appeals to me as does the Vibe 50 and the Century NX50.
I would be happy to get any one of those helis with the Webra 55-one day

Anyway thanks for your efforts, take care and have fun

I am looking for a pipe better suited to the RL53 than the 522 I'm running at the moment! Do you know if he will make one for this engine?

Mercuriell,
Do we have a distributer here in Oz?

Default Just tried GP 55

just tried one of these on a 50 sized fury, only problem is the engine is reversed compared to a trex so the pipe is upside down, had to richen the mixture quite considerably to cool the engine with this pipe compared to the zimmerman, running on a os 50 sx not sure why this is but a bit frustrating as it looks great on it.
