Default Xcell 60 Graphite SE

Is there people still flying the X-Cell 60 Graphite SE
I have the opportunity to pick one up that is pretty much flawless.
Coming from a Raptor and prefer precision pattern and sport flying aspect. I believe this would be a great helicopter.
I know technology has changed quite a bit, But for what I am getting included compared to what the costs are to by the newer production 3D models available, this is a no brainer - I think

I would Love to here from flyers still pursuing satisfaction from their own Xcell 60 Graphite SE.
Possibly post some pictures of your birds.

Thanks!

i love the x-cell line, i am coming from a hawk pro. i bought a x-cell from ebay for pennys, compared to what its worth, and rebuilt it and they fly great,. you can still get all the parts, and a se is even better, they are built to last, How many other r/c heli`s do you know of that are 15 years old and the company still supports them with parts? they are timeless machines, i have a 1005 gasser and .60 most of the parts are interchangeable., if you dobnt buy it end me a pm i would like to see it, as a matter of fact send some PICS anyway. winginit69 - Thanks for the reply - Glad to see someone likes this heli.

I bought it! Yesterday. Couldnt talk myself out of it.
I got it home and went through it. Other than having a GY501 (not familier with and reading the manual now) and a 1400 mah battery that is totally outdated and drained.
This is probably the best deal I have ever had.
The heli was literally flown 3 times, trimmed, and put on a shelf for years. Doesn't show any wear. There is not a lick of oil residue on the whole machine and it is an exceptional piece of equipment.
Everything that isnt carbon, is anodized orange metal.
The canopy has an outstanding paint job.
I have taken about 100 pictures of it so far.
I had a spare Raptor starter Hex for the shaft and it fit right on the X-Cell. The engine is the YS 61S. Not familiar with the YS line so reading up on that one too.

Oh well, Forgive the rambling . Just a little stoked.....
I am debating taking the 501 gyro off and putting my spare 401 on it.
What do you think. Is the 501 a viable gyro?
It has futaba digitals all around and a futaba 1024 pcm receiver. I pulled my Futaba T9CHP out of the box again as I have DX7 for my other helis.
I might get another 2.4 rx later but not needed at this time.

Anyway, Ill post some pics tomorrow.
I might have questions.

Ill keep you posted. If I get the Gyro situated and setup right on my radio tomorrow. Ill be flying it this weekend

Well, It flies
Had a great morning with the X-Cell. It was a little intimidating as I have never had anything bigger than the 50 Raptor.

Took some shots at the field taking advantage of the limited nice weather expected before the snow comes.

It is very Snappy and responsive and I am thinking for the 1st time ever to use some expo in the controls. I have never liked expo' as it always felt mushy too me. Just flying around in Normal mode to get a feel for it. Boy it sucks the juice down fast. I have a lot of trim work to do and I have 1 concern on the tail assembly.

It's Noisy - I meen noisy like clicking. It has a Little play in the tail gearing.
I can rotate the tail blade and it has play before it engages on the tail drive gear. not much but enough to feel like it is loose.

Does a Gear driven tail need to be a Tight Gear mesh with the boom gear with no play or are they needing some play in them.

The Gyro is pretty responsive as well, It was holding the tail in light winds going sideways down the runway with no real issues.

Thank you Very Much,
You might be the best one to answer the inquiry above.
Should the tail gear Mesh Feel soft or should there be no play in the tail rotor gears.

I heard there was a defect / warranty replacement that MA initiated and it had different tail end as a
replacement on this heli.
Is there some way to identify this as an issue or if it has the updated tail assy?

Thank you,
Jeff

Winginit69 - Pulled Plug, Lubed engine. Replaced plug
After couple of minutes of cranking it over - finally started. After that it ran just fine till I had to fill the tank again.
As far as I'm concerned - For Sale 1-YS 61 SE engine.

I started a thread on the Engine YS 61 S Flame out over a week ago and not a single response to my questions. Goes to show it was not a popular engine to begin with.

It caused a crash on the above heli the second flight due to a dying.
Probably not all the engines fault but I really do not care to figure it out. Stick to normal 2 strokes and not this pressurized crud.
Yes Im irritated about the engine...

Thanks ConRod -
I have gone through the heli and to my amazement, It faired pretty well. limited repairs.

-Carbon Boom, (Im going with metal replacements)
-Servo Gears for 3 servos
-4 linkages on Head assy

I can bend the Fly bar back to straight.
and The Main blade ding is more superficial than structural and I feel comfortable still using it.

On The Engine Note:
I pulled the YS engine and purchased new front and rear bearings. The Rear bearing was rusty.
I also purchased the Repair Kit Regulator Diaghram as well as a New Ring and gasket kit( I broke the Old ring)
The Cylinder and Sleeve still look new.
With some tuning I am sure it will be good as new and i need to take care of it / Learn the tuning properties.
I cant afford a new Engine at this time. Money Is going to a New Canopy Custom Jobby for it. I will post pictures when I get it back and all done with the repairs.

Jeff

Default XCell Graphite Not Normal

-EDIT- Found answer - its the 1999 version 60 SE

I was told I have an X-Cell 60 Graphite SE, but every manual I have found I cannot locate my Build.

The Graphite 60 SE has a completely different Servo mount system than mine does?

The 1st image is what the Manual shows.
The Second image is how mine is built.

Any ideas as to Where I can locate a manual for the configuration I have.

Thanks

I am looking for new tail fins for the Graphite 60 se.

Would these fit the 60 Size?

http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MA125-78
http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MA124-84

or

http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=165580
http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=165585

Just looking at options here. I would go with anything as long as the bolt patterns match but thought to check the MA stuff 1st.

I still fly one and love it. It probably needs a good cleaning but it still flys as good or better than anything I own. My only comment is that it is from a time when "parts count" wasn't even considered. It is a complex heli by today's standard. That doesn't hurt its flying at all but rebuilds are expensive and time consuming.

[bold]wjvail[/bold] - Thanks for the note - I hear ya, I saw this thing as a masterpiece and got it for a great price.
I sent off some emails prior to the purchase confirming that I can still get parts. Brian from MA let me know that parts are still available for it and some custom stuff can still be Machined if needed.
The little things end up taking a little while to get. Once I figure it out I should be good.
I'll have this heli for a long time I have a feeling and will deal with the little hick-ups as they come.

Just received a new custom painted canopy in the mail yesterday.
Cant wait to get back in the air.

By the way - Yours looks Awesome, I love the Purple Bolt Sleeves.
Where May I ask did you get those? maybe have them in orange... Now I want them on mine.

Thanks.

Thanks JW... I really love this heli and take it out fairly often. I just don't fly it as hard as some of my other stuff. The purple bits are usually referred to as "finish caps" (or "finishing caps") and are sold by several companies. Mine are made by QuickUK and sold by Ron Lund... arguably the best source for older MA parts in the world... errr, arguably the best source for new MA parts in the world too. They come in several colors but I've never seen orange. My first choice wasn't the purple but it was the only color they offered I thought would go well with the gold of the MA parts. Of course black would have been an obvious choice but I wanted something to highlight the HUGE number of M3 screws on this heli. Black would have blended in to much (for me).
