The 6HV is my first 600 size but from what I've read here 1850-2200 is the average range. So I set my Vbar governor to 1850, 1950 and 2200. Due to the weather and life in general I've only gotten two flights though so can't really say what's working best for me yet. For the sport type of flying I do I'll probably stay around the 1950 mark if I can get 5 - 6 mins flight time out of the Gens Ace 2600's I just bought.

I think I remember The Bum stating that he runs 1960 with 2650mahs Turnigy packs and gets 6.5-7 minutes.

Yeah 2150 here, I get 5 minutes and put back about 1500-1600mah.
In theory it could go longer, but I find everything gets pretty hot by the end of 5minutes that it would kill my packs pretty quick.

Larry, et al , thanks, i see with the HW esc its just a 'low' setting, no real goveners for me just yet.

The HW gov works fine... you need to set "Gov High " in the parameters. With stock setup, 75% of throttle will give you 2100rpm.

After 6 minutes of sport flight I put 1750mAh back in my 2950mAh Hyperion pack.

I just run 100% flatline and enjoy, never found the need for govenors on leccys as long as you use the correct pinion.

Hobby Wing has a headspeed calculator in his firmware upgrade software. You just enter the gears teeth, motor KV, desired headspeed and it gives you the throttle volume you should set.
Actually I think I set 76% (for 2100) and not 75%.

Best regards.

''You just enter the gears teeth, motor KV, desired headspeed and it gives you the throttle volume you should set.''

Ok can't find anything in my HW usb link program , except a repeat of the manual in 'help'. No updates showing
I'm looking at the instructions now it says;

eg. Headspeed = [the speed of the 2 poles motor * 13] /3/150 ,

what ever * means , thats not a math symbol

Also, just to confuse things, it says you need to know the poles# [which is 8] . So for the Gov. mode setting HW assumes you know the motor speed range, which Compass does not give.

I found in my case, it seemed to estimate quite low. I got about 200 more than estimated.

Larry, what do you think of the Vbar Gov. ? Still thinking about FBL unit , ease of set-up + more features ,maybe the vbar is worth the extra 100 bucks.

I've only had two flights since I built it but it seemed to work great for those two flights. Certainly seemed to work better than the CC ICE governor on my 500.
Granted I'm not as experienced as most of the people here but I've seldom heard anything bad about either.
As far as the Vbar itself goes, this is my second one and I have no plans on trying anything else. To me it's worth the extra money. Keep in mind you also have to spend and extra 45.00 to upgrade it to Pro though if you want to use the Governor feature. Personally I wish they didn't do it like that, I think the Pro software should be standard, but that's not my call and no need to get into that here.

mrultralite,

I forgot to mention the motor poles... you need it.. as you said, the stock compass motor has 8 poles (4 pairs).. you need this parameter because the ESC handle all motors like a 2 poles motor. So a 8 poles motor will run 4 times slower than a 2 poles motor.. then you need to feed this info to calculate the correct headspeed.
But the calculator works fine..

The HW software calculator is not a simple headspeed calculator.. it is intended to give you the "throttle volume" of desired headspeed. You just fill the parameters and desired headspeed and it gives you the throttle..

In the stock 6HV, 76% of throttle will give you 2100rpm.

Just my experience.. At our field we have 2 Compass 6HV, one with MBX and another with VBar.

The Micro Beast X is ridiculously easy to config... almost works fine right out of the box.
The VBar is quite complicated to config and fine tuning... but once you do it right, it works flawlessly.

Both FBL have similar performance.. I dare to say is quite impossible to know what you are flying.
The VBar has the advantage of numerous parameter to play and fine tuning. And the PRO version have governor. It works great, but the stock HW gov do a good job as well.

If you wish just to spool up and fly a great FBL, save your money, time and go with MBX.
If you wish to mess around with a lot of parameters, fine tuning tests and have much time to play with and 200 bucks more laying around, you will like VBar.

Best Regards.

Alex.

Alex, thanks so much for clarifying all that, so if i run your HS # i get 65625 motor speed which is high gov.
