Adjust pinions

Hello Everyone,
I purchased the Stage 3 upgrade kit from Boomtown Hobbies for my CX2. Everything was great, but the pinion on the motor for the lower blades is mounted too far down on the shaft. I have tried making a go of it using some stop-gap measures, but I am still getting gears broken frequently.
So it looks like I'm going to have to move the pinion if don't want to continue getting broken gears. Has anyone done this? Anything I should look out for?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
