Default Re-winding of a HK 3o26 9N6P

Did anyone rewinding of a 3026 9N6P motor.

It has currently a KV of 1600 and the target is around 1000 for a Protos 500.

Is this doable at all? And does it make sense?
Or better go for a 3226 12N10P kit?
