I am using a Hyperion EOS0606i charger and I was wondering why it takes so long to discharge my Eflight 11.1 2200 mAh battery's for my Blade 450. The setting is what the book says for this battery. ??
I know they were fully charged ( havnt used the Heli in days,,,too windy here) wanted to make sure I didnt ruin the new batteries. (I have 5 of them)...So I read to discharge them. Im new to this so it may be quite normal....any help would be appreaciated!! Thanks

My charger will only discharge at 1A. That's only just over 6C on a 160 mAh... for your 2200 mAh it would take about 2 hours and 12 minutes from a full charge. What C rating is your battery? What amperage are you discharging at?
My manual for the charger tells me to discharge @ 1C BTW. The manual plays it ridiculously safe. I discharge at the full 1A and if the charger would allow I could discharge @ up to 4A (25C) since that's what my battery is rated for.

BRILLIANT!!!!!
What's the risk of running them too low by that method though. That's the only thing I'd worry about.

Yes they are very bright when discharging.
Takes 25 minutes or so to get a full 6s5000mah to storage level. Better than the HOURS on a charger. You got to watch/time them though.. if you forget.. your going to kill your pack.

Chargers have very limited discharging capabilities because the only way they can discharge it to convert the energy to heat. Also people underestimate just how much energy is in even a small lipo. Add those two together and it makes for LONG discharge times. Here is a little math for you.
A google search showed me this about that charger "0.1A - 1.0A Selectable Discharge Current (5W max)". Knowing that it has a 5W max discharge, lets see how long it will take to discharge a 3s 2200mAh pack A 3s 2200mAh pack is actually a 11.1V, 2.2Ah pack. The Ah rating means that it will output 2.2A for an hour before it is depleted. That equates to 24.4W, or 2.2A * 11.1V, or nearly 5 times the max discharge capabilities of that charger. So it would take 5 hours to discharge that pack fully on your charger. Now assume you want to discharge it to 50% for storage, it would take approx. 2.5 hours to do so. Make sense? If you need more, look into making one of these. http://www.tjinguytech.com/charging-...ight-bulb-load

Thanks Dan

i use 3 x 100w 24v car lights wired in series to discharge my 6s 3300 packs if i need to.
with this method im putting a 12.4amp load on the pack and its down to 3.8 in 13minuites roughly. i made the light harness up to break my new packs in, thunder power reccomend a 3-5c run in for the first few cycles and this gives me 4c give or take a little
