Default Any RX or just certain ones?

I have a DX6i and to this point have only used Spektrum receivers. I have to replace one and want to know if there is a standard (any 2.4) or if I have to stay Tx specific? Thanks if you know or can recommend a lower cost option.

"orange" receivers are spektrum knock offs that work well.

Thanks Fuzz, I had an employee that called me llama, he called my boots "big shiny hooves". I bought a Spektrum 6100 from a guy on Ebay. The description showed factory packaging and gave specs. I thought the price reflected the age of the technology. When it came in it was in bubblewrap stuffed into a sandwhich baggy. I sent the guy a message asking about this and he said its good. So I got screwed on the knockoff with the actual name on it. This is the one with the bad rudder channel. You sayin' the orange brand is good? If you've had more than one then I may give it a try. I'd rather have something that claims compatability as opposed to a copy with the good name stamped on it. Til' now I've been loyal to Spektrum and have had no issues with them at all, but I did see the KoKo warning they issued and think I have bought one of them. Will not happen twice. My original question still is; can I use any 2.4 ghz receiver with the DX6i or am I limited to Spek and JR?

The orange receivers work good, i have used a couple in some of my models. I have never had an issue with them but i feel better using the spektrum stuff in my more pricey models. The orange receivers i believe are only dsm2 as well now. You cant beat the price for sure though.

Thanks again. I have to straighten this out. I managed to get full range on both sides of tail rudder by cranking the trim "button" way over to the left. Dont know why this worked but it did so the receiver is not the problem. Several guys have mentioned mech binding. I pulled the horn from the servo so it operated with no load while I did these tests. I am still getting full range with settings back to zero but movement is a bit slow on one side, not enough to worry about. So the AR 6100 is now on another heli and seems to be benching fine. I'll play with it on Sunday.
