Default HYPERION PARALLEL BOARD MELTED!!

hey guys..so as i was taking out the batteries on my Hyperion parallel charge board. i noticed a funny smell. then as i took out one battery, i noticed that it melted the wire and burned the wire connector. I was doing some research online and saw that the hyperion parallel charger is only good up to 240mah batteries. this is werid because i have been charging the 6 250mah on my thunder ac6 with no problem. buttttt....today i charged 2 300mah turnigy nano techs on it. does anyone know what caused this to happen? am i able to use those octopus wires with 6 connectors for a mcpx battery that has a banana cable at the end? i need to order another parallel port and need some advice on which to get. thanks

No charger has a real capacity limit, the charger cannot tell a 100mah pack from a 10,000,000mah pack. Imagine going to the gas station and the attendant saying you cannot fill up there because your gas tank is too big.

What Hyperion charger are you using. 240mah packs is very small. A friend of mine charges his 25C 5800mah Gens Ace with his Hyperion charger without one problem. I charge, almost every day, 4500mah and 4000mah batteries, and have been doing this for many years without one problem. The only reason I could see this happening is short circut.

I'm using a thunder ac6 charger with a Hyperion parallel charge board. Not a Hyperion charger. I read something online that the Hyperion board is good for 240mah batteries. Which is weird since I used to charge 6 250mah batts. Thinking if I should get another board or just get the parallel wires with a banana plug

Those microJST boards like the hyperion use 22AWG wiring which limits the total amps you can push through. If you charge 4x300mah packs at 1C, then you're pushing 1.2A through these wires. The 22AWG wire is rated at 1A for power transferif I remember right so you're right there pushing it. Now these limits are very conservative, but if something goes wrong then you might have a problem.
Most parallel wires use beefier wires. I use a 6x parallel JST to charge 4x 650mah 1 cell packs for my v120d02s and never had any issue. The one I use has 18AWG wires that's rated at about 2.5A (again if my memory serves well).

Plugging a battery in backwards will cause the melting you are describing. If that is not it, then its not pack capacity, but current that will cause melting. You didn't specify what current setting you used for those two 300 mah packs. But even at 3c each, (1.8 amps total) that should be far below what it takes to melt the traces on the board. I would remove the foam on the underside of the board and inspect the damage. Most likely it can be repaired.

hmmm..im not sure if i plugged it in backwards. i never force the plugs in. maybe it was a short. the burn was bad that the socket on the parallel board was almost off. and it turned black under it. i ordered another hyperion parallel board to see if it happens again. ill keep you guys posted on progress.

I think the title of the thread needs to be changed.

Just got my new Hyperion parallel board. Now I see why the first one melted. Max mag is 240. I was charging 300mah turnigy batts. I'll order some parallel cables for these and use the Hyperion for my 240mahs

Still not making sense. Mah is capacity not charge rate. Hyperion mCPX are 240 and 250 with a max charge rate of 5c. Using the less of those two values, that 1.2 amps per cell, or 7.2 amps total. Not likely you were over that (hopefully) with the Nanotechs.
