My hobby shop is out of blade 400 main gears. Will any other brand fit the Blade 400?, such as Esky or Align?

Esky King 3 main gear should work. I've used a B400 main gear on the Esky K3 before. Don't see why it wouldn't work the other way around. But good luck finding Esky at a LHS.

It does not look much like a Trex gear. I would just order one form Helidirect or the such. Throw in a few spare parts to make it worth shipping. You will have your new parts in a week. I like having some spare parts on hand anyway.

Yes, the B450 gear will fit, but you also need its new center hub to pull it off. You are stuck here as far as I know. Either pick up new B400 gears or upgrade to the microheli version. Which is superior in a half dozen different ways btw.

I use a blade 400 main gear on my esky belt cpx. It has the same tooth count, and is a direct fit for the esky. Maybe it will work the other way around. Be aware though, the esky main gear is replaced by many for a reason: it strips very easily.

A little hard to explain. Place the main gear in the bench vice. Use the appropriate
driver/socket to press the outer race of the bearing into a receiver socket/tool of slightly larger diameter. This is the same procedure for most one way bearings.

Installation is the same, except no drivers are needed. Simply press the OWB into the
gear until flush.

Here is what I came up with to change out the OWB on my Outrage 550. When you learn to fly CP helis with a Belt CP you learn a couple of tricks. This will work for any heli, just need to size the pieces correctly. About 10 minutes in a home improvement store with the center hub and I was ready to go.

I installed a new main gear on my blade 400.All was well, gear mesh was perfect, so I took her out and within 1 min. I noticed heli was acting funny. It was like the main gear and tail gear fused together.I cuold not manually spin main or tail gear and after a few minutes of trying they let go and spun normally. So I put motor back on and went to fly again and same thing happened.Any ideas? I have rebuilt heli quite a few times and gear is not upside down or anything else like that.Maybe a bad one way bearing?I'm stumped.

I bought a new main gear with one way bearing for my blade 400.I could tell something wasn't right and it appears the oneway bearing isn't seated properly and therefore it is not spinning true.Is it possible to fix this or should I return it to place of purchase?

I'd say return it.
I am not familiar with that maingear setup, but the one-way bearing is pretty sensitive to how it is mounted in the hub. In other words, you can damage the one-way if you over compress it in getting it into the hub. At least I was able to damage mine when I tried to get a new one into an Align 250 SE hub . I just buy the entire setup now! |
