I was thinking of getting a Kontronik 120HV Jive and the KDE700XF-495.
Any suggestions or comments please ? Thanks Rory |

Its all personal preference. The K 120 is a solid proven esc that just works and works well and as far as motor its all about flight style, skills and what you want from the heli. The KDE is a decent motor from what ive heard but there are many other good choices out there as well.

Scorpion ESC either SBEC or OPTO. The SBEC just means it has a built in BEC and costs 100 more. This thing is rock solid and can be setup in a matter of minutes.
For motors, again, I like Scorpion. Their motors and ECS's just seem to produce the most power when put together. Here are some I own: HK-III-4035-500&560 - Good power with longer flight times. Mine seem to be a little more powerfull than the Align 700MX which is a very good motor in itself. HK-4525-520 - Really starting to get into some serious power and probably the biggest motor the Trex -700 can handle! HK-4530-540 - POWERHOUSE!!!! This thing is better suited for something like the Goblin! This produces massive power, but you really need to consider some strong, high C packs for this thing! |

I would go Jive 120 for esc and there are too many motors to list. Do you want longer run times, higher head speeds, more powerful, more torque, what size blades, etc. The scorpion esc is good but there are none in stock now and as soon as they are available they are going to be sold out again. The Jive is more expensive but it has a more reliable BEC and the governor works almost just as well.

Yeah, the SBEC ones won't be in stock for a while but the OPTO ones are plenty available. I actually almost went with the Jive 120, but couldn't really see spending over double what the Scorpion costs especially when I ordered 6 at once (2 SBEC, 4 OPTO). The only other turnoff I have was that the Jive seemed to like to cutout with the "big" motors, but I hear that may be solved with the new YY wound offerings? I don't own a Jive, but I wanted an easy setup and didn't think it was user friendly. Honestyl, you really can't go wrong with either!

The Jive 120 and Pyro 450 or 520 make a very light weight and efficient combination if you don't mind spending a little extra dough. This combination is somewhere around a pund lighter than the KDE/Ice 120v2 combination. My next choice would be the new Scorpion esc with one of their motors as well, probably the 4525-520. I've owned at least a dozen Scorpion motors and they have always performed well for me. Another benefit of the new Scorpion esc is that it works with vbar gov which I am dying to try out.
Don't get duped into feeling like you need some ridiculously overpowered motor. All that'll accomplish is reducing your flight time and increasing your disc loading. Who really needs 10,000+ watts? I guess you might if you're carrying an extra three pounds of motor, esc, and lipos. It's just absurd in my opinion. That's my 2¢.

The Jive will handle double its rated capacity.

I run the Quantum 4530-500KV and the Heli Jive 120. Heli Jive cuts off (8 blinks on the LED) due to over current. So the Heli Jive 120 can't really handle the BIG motors. I am switching to the Castle ICE2 HV 160 and a Gryphon Quasar Hyper BEC. That ought to handle the Quantum. By the way, this is in my Trex 700E V2.
