All,
I was just wondering what tail blades work best with the EDGE 523's. I'm ordering a set of these just to try and have pretty much run the 550 / 553's, 85mm tails, and the 4.5:1 tail ratio exclusively on my 550's to date. I currently don't even have a set of 520's in the shop to mount to see what might clear on the machine but I was hoping to run EDGE 95mm tails since I have a few sets of these in the shop. Will these clear? Any input you guys could give me on this would be helpful... Last edited by mtuccio; 05-09-2012 at 10:18 AM.. |

My personal favorites are the Rotortech 92mm blades. They fly amazing. The only downside to them is if they even touch the ground they can get damaged. I have the Radix tail blades on my Avant and those seem to be great as well and alot more durable.

Thanks for the input....I'll have to take a look at those. I would like to have some durability though if possible but if they hold then that is the main thing.
Have you every run larger then 92mm? I'm asking because the only size EDGE tail blade I don't have right now is 92mm....I pretty much got all the rest 60mm, 86mm, 95mm, 105mm, and 115mm..... |

Have you tried KBDD tail blades? I use 92mm on the T550. I like them so much that I also use their 102mm ones on my bigger heli. They have a little wider chord and they hold the tails very good. Also, in case of a crash, they do break away easily so minimize the damages to the other components.

I am flying KBDD on the 550 right now but definitely have too much flex if you start to push them. I'm only running them because I had them in my parts box during the rebuild from last crash. I just ordered some Radix 92mm to give them a try on the 550. I love the Edge Main blades on the bigger helis but have not had too much luck with their tail blades.
I have run 95mm tail blades on the 550 but the blades are very close to the ground unless you do something to raise the tail. Even the 92mm are pretty close to the ground.

Thanks for the info rctazz...This is very helpful.
What kind of issues did you have with the EDGE tails? I've had pretty good luck with these....Just curious. |

On the 550E and the 700 I had a slow tail wag (almost like you see on some 250s). Played with gain and tried balancing the blades with no improvement. As soon as I installed a different set of tail blades (including Stock), the wag went away.
