i just got my f50 back together with the newly restocked parts from helidirect and the tail gears didnt need any shimming or "making" them tight. they just were by default. is this a result of bert nocking some heads around or did i get some "freak" parts? regardless im just happy to have the war wagon back in the air.

i just put togther my new kit a few weeks ago and didnt have any issues at the tail end with gear mesh or the front of the boom with a sloppy gear in the boom housing. i didnt have to sand the housing, or put tape on anything.
the kits did come with all black gears, dont know if that means anything or not.

Got mine in November and no slop here. I tried a black auto gear last week but it was to tight and overheated. It sounded like an old creaky door after flight, so I put the white gear back in.

if it is happening that much that sounds like a govenor gain problem. or you have the stopping power on the tail set too high

I still have yet to strip a single gear in flight on this heli... my fusion has 38 flight hours (over 400 flights) on it. The only gears I have stripped were front and rear TT gears, a few times... due to plowing the tail while practicing autos.
Also, went back to white gears 150 flights ago.... simply because I had them.

At 2300 RPM my tail gears lasted 10 flights before I had to change them. At 2200 I can get about 60 before I swap them. I also found that if you fly off dirt the tail gears wear 10x faster and require rigorous maintenance.

My orginal white tail gears lasted 300 or more flights before a tail bump striped them, Still have the white main gears on the shelf as spares, put the black ones in just because it looked good.
I have done a few sets of tail gears due to contact with the ground, some of the front gears do not mesh well with the big tail gear, I had to try a few to get a real smooth one |

I stripped a front bevel gear in flight last week. I guess I got away with it for so long because I didn't put enough load on the gear until that day.
All the TT gears were damaged so I changed all 7 gears. The front gear case had to be replaced too because it was in 4 pieces. I was running the kit white gears and now they're all black. I'm having to shim the tail rotor shaft to eliminate end play there and had to add shims on the front TT bearings to eliminate the left/right play in the front bevel gear. I have it together but I think the auto gear is meshed way too tight with the small TT transfer gear. Something is causing way too much drag with it all together when I turn the head. The gears are very noisy too. I've spun it up and the Vbar vibe analysis reads 174 with all the new parts. I guess I'm going to have to go back and pull it apart and look at each mesh until I find the problem. I'm not sure I'm liking these black Outrage gears right now. |

Be aware a number of us filed the 12 tail block holes so we could adjust our own mesh from the big tail gear to the small tail gear. After putting on all new gears... and after 5-10 flights... you should get at least 20 rotations if you spin the main blades by hand as fast as you can. Otherwise your mesh is too tight somewhere.
