Default Scratching my head.....

So, I'm relatively new to fbl, only setup a couple, and never an align.

I am putting together a 450 pro v2 3gx for someone and am a bit bewildered. I have heard all the "beast is better", "vbar is better", etc. I figured the 3gx would at least fly though, yes??

Build went fine, really well actually. Setting up all the servos and pitch curves in DIR mode seemed to go swell. Loaded in the 450 beginner setup as the owner is a beginner. All the correction directions look great, and double checked. Programmed the tail, everything went well. I'm ready to go fly right...... Ha, NO.

First spool up the little bitty tried to tip over on me. Fast fingers saved the day. Maybe I wont do this on the pavement. Moved to the grass. Little bitty tried to tip over again, HA, fast fingers to the rescue again. I pulled it into the air this time, HOLY wobble batman!! Gains were set at the 12 o'clock position. Turned em down about 2 hours, roughly. Little better, but it still was jerking itself around a bit, really a bear to keep in the air. Turned the gains down to the 8 o'clock position, nearly off, and it flies but it's just loose and sloppy and has no willingness to stay in one place. I'm a bit afraid to turn the gains back up now though........

Each of these flights I hit TH and mini-autoed it down from a few feet to avoid landing under power as this thing is just a wiggly little worm in the air.

Thoughts?? Again, never setup a 3gx before and I'm hoping I just missed some blindingly obvious setting in the manual, or software and someone can smack me and tell me to RTFM!

-What version of firmware are oyu running?
-Where did you mount it
-What tape did you use
-Have you considered that you have a vibration
-Are you sure 1000% swash correction is correct? This could explain the near tips

I booted it up this morning and it's v1.1

It is mounted in the upper location on the anti rotation bracket.

I used the factory supplied tape.

I did think about vibrations a bit, but this seems as smooth if not more so than any other 450 I've built.

Yes, the swash is correcting in the right direction. I was checking and double checking this to be sure. I even put it down, watched some TV and came back to it to check again to be sure I wasn't imagining things.

Swash is perfectly level using a leveling tool and blade grip links are measured using a micrometer. Pitch verified on both sides of helicopter on both blades.

I suspect if head setup and tracking were and issue the wobble would not have gone away when the gains were lowered as headspeed was the same.

Consider v1.2 at the very least. or maybe 2.0 I just switched to so it is a "each to his own" kinda thing. I think 2.0 is stable so you might wanna go that route.
Consider using the white 3M tape either 1 or 2 layers

Vibrations, with blades on, set a 0 degree pitch on your TX for testing, spool up, look at the tail servo. As you increase throttle to 100% do you see it moving along with the throttle up?
With the blades off, and a normal pitch curve, spool up and eye the cyclic servos, do you see any twitching or is the swash stbale during the increase of throttle.

BTW- what DIR what is the max aileron and collective pitch set to?

Load the V1.2 software and then put in Leon Luke's settings for the 450 Sport. These settings are very solid and I was amazed at the difference they made on my 450 Pro.

Hope this helps....

Just loaded V2.0 and went back through DIR setup using manual and digital pitch gauges to verify it was dead on. 12 collective and 8 ail and ele. The only thing I noticed that was strange was ail didn't want to give me full swing, the servos wanted to stutter and twitch. I'm going to pull the blades off and spin it up, see how it looks.

Any ideas on why the servos would twitch during DIR setup? I swapped batteries as well to make sure I didn't drain one during setup.

Figured out the aileron. That pot on the tx is starting to go out. I can watch it on the monitor function.

As far as the twitchy aileron, the tx is going out.

I loaded up 2.0 and re-setup in DIR using two pitch gauges, everything is dead on again. It seems to fly now. I only hovered it a couple minutes but it feels alright. Need to give it a bump on the tail gain but aside from that it feels ok. It did seems to want to tilt to the left while spooling up but I was on some very squishy grass so I don't feel that I can count that as a concern until I try it on stable ground, I'm relatively convinced it was merely the untended lawn work.
