I think it's really cool on 2 premises.
1-- It is a feat of technology and engineering in order to get electronics to work in this manner. 2-- Are all of you saying that there hasn't been one time that you couldn't have used a bailout feature? Have you never crashed due to a lost orientation? What about a return home feature when you lose orientation or the model is just too far out to tell what it's doing? I think, as others have mentioned that the auto waypoints and such are gimmick-y but still from a technology perspective (I realize that it has been done before. And for years) it's pretty amazing. It would be pretty awesome for FPV stuff, as well as AP applications as well. I feel like you all think it's cheating. However that's what everyone was saying about a Vbar a few years back as well. Just another technology to enhance your flying enjoyment and hopefully reduce the frustrations that the hobby can and does lead to from time to time.

Mikrokopters have been able to do this for years.
I wonder what happens when it resets mid flight while coming home...

I can see this being useful to newbs who are determined to learn the basics on the real thing, FPV folks, and as a back up for signal loss due to range.
I think you'll see 3d guys pooh-poohing this since it seems to be marketed at the whole market and not just the folks who really need semi-auto nav. That said, so long as it doesn't pull the "3gx funky chicken" into the ground on a semi regular basis it might turn out to be pretty good. I just hope they don't go around marketing it as this super breakthrough. As thal pointed out, other systems have been able to do this for a while. Heck, the Yamaha R-Max had successful auto-nav testing done when Hirobo was finishing up development and that was back in the 80's/90's.

I for will get one but only cause I'm just getting into scale and building my first Airwolf. The amount of time I've invested in it so far I'd be gutted if it disappeared over the horizon lol

Same here. I'll buy it in a heart beat.
Like others have already said, it is mostly for FPV and AP work, and even emergency bait out. They mention nothing about 3D. Why you guys so worked up about it with 3D. That guy having a Pork Chop on Rice while flying is funny!

This is just awesome... I want this.
Doesn't this take away from some of the pilot skill though? |

I know a couple of guys who are heavy into AV who are going to be all over this system if it turns out to work well.
I am wondering about a couple of things though. ![]() If there is a loss of signal how does the system know if the path it has chosen back to the starting point is clear of obstacles? And secondly will it have a low voltage detection system which will land the heli if it is in the hover mode or does it stay put till the esc cuts out? I have a feeling that this is the next progression in the hobby and that most helis will be using an auto bailout system in 5 years or less and the bailout vs no bailout discussions will soon become similar to the past rate vs heading hold and the current flybar vs flybarless threads.

From the video, it looks like this system is only designed for flybarless systems only.

I too have looked almost everywhere trying to get some ballpark on price but no luck so far. I am guessing cheaper than the helicommand (3a, 3d, rigid) but more than the co-pilot2. Could be totally wrong but that looks like it would appeal and be affordable. Surely they wouldn't tease people with it and make it in the DJI range
