Default X2 madness

So I brought an x2 the other week from a guy off eBay. Never flown only partially built. It came with a ds420 tail servo and gaui gs 095 on the cyclic. Not sure why the guy brought tail servos for the cyclic? Guess he was a noob and only looking at the speeds. So it had been in the closet for awhile now but I started collecting new parts, I picked up a yge esc, some blades from Emil, 6x gen ace 1000mah packs, and I just ordered 3x mks ds95's and a ds95i for it. I have a spare ar7200bx that will also be going on it. Looking forward to this build as my front yard toy. Hope all the hype about the x2 is justified. If not I will keep the servos, list the x2 for sell and get a mini protos.

Its a nice machine. You'll enjoy it! It flys really well and its perfectly suited for front yard flying. I think your X2's previous owner put rudder servos on the cyclic because thats what Empire was reccomending to do, at least thats what they reccomended to me. The salesman at Empire Hobby told me that the GAUI pilots, at that time (fall of 2010), were flying with rudder servos on the cyclic because they felt it gave them quicker cyclic response. I bought them. Was it overkill? Probably, but I havent had any problems with the servos yet, and since I upgraded my 255 to an X2 recently, I think the faster servos on the cyclic are advantages when using a FBL system. Those flybarless gyros demand fast cyclic servos.

However, there are 2 mods I would not fly without.

1. O-ring mod to the idler pullies (this will keep the belt from rubbing on anything).

2. You should replace the washers that hold the big tail bearing in with washers that
have a bigger outer diameter. The washers provided by GAUI are too small and the
big tail bearing will vibrate loose.

Without doing those 2 mods, you probably have a max of about 10 flights before something breaks. With the mods mentioned above, you will have a reliable bird that flys great!

Hello !

Otherwise gret litle machine ( probably the best in micro class )....

Ewery you pick is OK exsept...............

DS95 are too havy for this bird.....30g of extra weight, this is too much.....

Do not ask mee how I know.... ( been there, done that.... ).

Flight time is 0,5 min shorter because this havy servos 3.20 min vs 4.00 min in my flight style, prety much hardcore( otherwise great servos wit awsome specs)

So if you ask me HS 5065 is the way too goo, litle slow......, but is 30 gram lighter, maybe some other servos too, but soo far I have good exspiriences with HS 5065.

Regards

Ino-lab D202HB's and Align DS410's would work well also. I'm using the D202HB's in the X2 and the DS410's in the 250. Both work well with a FBL gyro.

Also I've had well over 10 flight without doing glarepro's mods. I'm not saying they aren't necessary, but it doesn't seem to be a problem with my heli. Perhaps a different batch (mines a 255 converted to X2). I did lower my pinion, but that was all.

Thanks for the info guys. Maybe it is not to late for me to change my order with Helidirect; I just placed it last night. I will keep the ds95i but try to find some lighter cyclic servos. As far as the pulley mod I thought that the HSC pullies were the way to go and had plane to order them. When I looked up the tail servos that the guy had on the cyclic even at 6 volts they did not put at as much torque as the stock cyclics at 4.8 volts. I thought that would be a problem.

I found that by using a very fine screwdriver to keep the washer pushed toward the bearing as you tighten the screw, the washers do cover the edge of the bearing. I'm hoping this is sufficient; I've only done this just now but have 40 flts. on my X2 now. The washers were covering originally, but not as well as now. Make sure to use threadlock too.

Threadlock everything. I had a 'close call' where the auto. gear was loosening--I hadn't threadlocked the middle mainshaft collar setscrews. I still haven't gone over all the tiny screws in the tail pitch assembly...anyone know if those were done at the factory? I know some of the screws are, like the upper swash balls for instance.
