Anyone using this set up? Would I need anything else other than an sr120 tail?

No need for the 120 tail with that setup. It will only cause your more trouble then it's worth. Just use the new extended tail boom and you'll be plenty happy with it.

I'm not useing the plug and play setup you linked. But pretty much the same thing. a co5 mcpx with the steve and yellow wire soldered to the board

Save yourself some money. Send your Heli to Dylan and have home do a xp7a or xp12a (my fav) flashed and a co5m (mild) or a hp06v2 and appropriate tail and have a proper Heli. I've got 5 different mcpx that I experimented different setups on and have ended up converting them all.

Co5m really only needs flashed xp7a and hpo6v2 requires xp12a.

Co5m and flashed xp7a= 45 $ ish

Hp06v2 and flashed xp12a = 66$ ish

Both are way better a setup than that PNP crap.

And he is American just trying to raise his kids and pay his bills, see no reason not to support his efforts, besides he ha tons of cool MCPX bits.

Thanks Danny, I'm going to look into that. Do you know how long it takes for him to do one.

Your are forgettign to mention that with a co5 you can run a stock tail, a hp06v2 you will need a hp03t tail motor and xp-3a esc, about another $45 or you can get a 120sr tail but i didnt like mine and replaced it a few days later. Hp06v2 is extremely powerful, i would suggest starting with a co5 or hp05s unless you have alot of heli experience and are ready to buy alot of parts.

I just upgraded a buddy to HP06v2 over the weekend. Before that I upgraded him from stock to C05, however since he has seen my HP06v2, he was not happy with the C05 for more than 2 weeks and he's pretty new to helis.

Now, I'm telling people to get at least an HP05s, which you can still use with stock tail if you keep it goverened down and the stock battery as well.

You can also go to HP06v2 and keep that goverened down and it handles really good, but you really need the HP03 tail with that. It's got a lot of power, or tame if you set it to 50% headspeed. This setup is heavy though, so when you run it at low headspeed your dealing with the weight. HP05 is really light with 300mah batteries.

Don't bother with the 120sr tail, it's just too tail heavy but will work if money is an issue.

To put this in better perspective, the first heli i ever flew was a msr, i flew it for a year or so then picked up the mcpx and the learning curve was obviously huge but after a few months i found myself wanting more power probably just as you do. I went with a xp-12a/hp05s and love it although i had to be extremly careful when i first started flying it because it is a TON of power over the stock motor.

I dont regret getting a hp05s i love it to death and am about to build a 2nd brushless on my v2, but i sure am glad i didnt get any more of a motor or this beast would probably be stuck in a tree or in the next county. Get the hp05s and a 120sr tail like joe suggested if money is tight, you can always upgrade to a brushless tail if you want to later on. THere are plenty of people on these forums who love the 120sr tail.

Also add, the main problem with the brushed tail motors or any brushed motor in general is they never have the same power. One motor could have significantly more power than the next one, so some people will love it, others will find they just don't work. With brush-less you have more accurate power results between motors and can depend on it.

Thanks for all the information guys! I went with the co5m with 8th and flashed xp-7a esc, soldered it up last week and LOVE IT Pitch is at 62%, the tail seems to hold best at that setting. Now I just need to find more "flight time" ...work is always getting in the way
I need to shorten the wires a bit to "clean it up"
