Hi guys,
First time with a Skookum here, coming from Vbar and wanting to test the SK on my 500Pro after reading all the good on the SK. Well let's just say for now I prefer the vbar! I have gone through the setups, using basic 3D. I have upped the tail gain to 65 to get a solid tail which I have so not much trouble on that side, just have to play with collective precomp to get the tail solid on punch outs and tic tocs. Governor is sorted too, had a severe tail wag initially which was cured by a drop in gov gain. Cyclics wise it's a disaster though ![]() I have maxed out the gain just before getting an elevator bob. Symptoms I'm seeing are: - elevator bounce back after sharp input - mushy cyclics - cyclics overshoots in tic tocs, ie impossible to do fast tight tic tocs - drifts (back elevator) OK my swash may not be perfectly level, I'm spoiled by vbar which doesn't care Where do I begin? I hope I can get this sorted, I had none of these issues with beastx and vbar on this machine. Running DFC head, Align 510 on cyclics, MKS Bls 760µs standard size on tail, align motor, hw ESC

=] many pilots assume cranking up values will produce positive / desired results, for some gyro's this is certainly the case, for the SK540 / 720 not so!
reduce the hiller decay to 100%, reduce the gyro gain to 45%, increase the bell gains to 85%. post up your software settings to tune it further....

Thanks, I will try what you suggest
Comparing with vbar is not the object of this thread but yeah at least for me out of the box vbar has always flown great and adjustability couldn't be easier. As long as I can get the SK to fly just as good I don't care though. Just hope I can get rid of elevator bobble, I have read some threads saying you have to live with and hope it's not true! Will try changing settings and report back

I hate the fact that if you switch from Sport or 3D it "ERASES EVERYTHING"..All your servo reversing, servo trims, etc ..all your basic settings. Why cant it save those settings and just change the flying settings?

You can. Just select the tab that you want to reset to "Sport" in the setup software, then right-click on that tab with your mouse. A menu pops up that offers lots of different options including the one you want.

Ok I just tried. On the cyclic 1/2 tab and tail 1/2 tab. Yes it does! Thanks for that

"I have maxed out the gain just before getting an elevator bob. Symptoms I'm seeing are:
- elevator bounce back after sharp input - mushy cyclics - cyclics overshoots in tic tocs, ie impossible to do fast tight tic toc " This sounds like the bell gain and cyclic control rates aren't working together or set too high for the heli. Are the cyclic rates set to above 270 degrees per second? Also try turning on Preferences->Advanced mode, and check the Bell Gains. If it has auto-tuned to more than 90%, the heli can't actually reach the control rate you've set. That will cause poor cyclic behavior. If so, the fixes are to either reduce the cyclic rate, or increase RPM and/or use lighter blades. |

Leon Luke is posting those settings for the 3GX and a lot of people seem to see this as a good starting point.
Maybe we could get something similar, heli specific. |
