Default They Tried to Steal my Trex 700n from a night flight event

This weekend was the semi annual night flight at my local field. I got to the field 1 hr before dusk and flew a little. There was a lot of people there but off to the side where the Heli pad was a black IS250 parked with the motor running. They got there while i was flying. So I went to register for the night flight and took my Heli and radio with me. I set it on the ground and when I got up from the table one guy grabbed the 700 and lift it, I quickly reacted and told them something I probably shouldn't have but They dropped it then kept walking to the airplane flight line and then drove off in the Lexus. I lost site of them as I was telling an event coordinator. They had followed me from Heli field to the shelter. But they went home empty handed thank god.

Glad to hear they didn't make off with it! I'd say if you have any local forums of flyers put out a memo to them with any information about the guy.

I'd say you let the guy off easy lol.

Knowing me I probably would have had a riot going in short order

Lesson learned, dont trust lexus drivers. JK and its great that you stopped th event in progress. I visited Amsterdam and had a folding bike on my trip. My first stop out of the main train station was Durty nellies bar I had a pint or two and walked out an my bike was being stolen! He was working the lock and I suggested that wasnt the best bike to steal. He asked why and I told him it was mine

The worst offenders are almost always luxury cars. The two I've had the most problems with are Lexus and BMW drivers.

I'd say probably an issue is most know there'll be little effort done by law enforcement to track them down when successful and when caught it tends to be a slap on the wrist.

Yes it would have been a waste of time to call the local authorities.
I didn't get the tag number. They didn't actually steal the heli. I did have one witness but still they're not going to catch a single Lexus out on the streets.

Unrelated story, 6 years ago I had a friend that got sucker punched and fell into on coming traffic. He was Killed instantly by an on coming Blue Mini-Van. Both parties fled the scene. My friend's other buddies stayed there till the local authorities got there and explained what happened. Sense my friend got out of the car he was consider an aggressor and was at fault (easy blame the dead guy). They did Catch the other guys same night and they where never arrested. The Driver of the Minivan that actually ran him over was found two weeks later.
Her story was she felt something but was to tired to stop. She was never charged either for hit and run.

Unfortunately this is the world we live in.

I agree, but pitch a rock through a car window and kill or maim someone, and the police won't really care. Killing or seriously injuring someone in anger who is no immediate threat to you is not really an appropriate response to an attempted theft. Cool heads always prevail....

well I shouldn't say this but, I did have my G 19 concealed on me at the time. even if they did walk on with the heli it wouldn't warrant me pulling it out.
had they kept walking I would of been nervous but would of gotten the tag called the police for sure and get into my van and chase them as well.

but then you stop and think, ok I pull the gun out Jail for me.
If I chase them Jail or put my family in danger which was in the van at that time. my twins where sleeping with my wife in the van.

its just a heli. I would of love to still get them arrested as the intent was more than clear they where there for something they didn't own. But luckily they took my warning dropped the heli and left.

I would also love to bait them but I know chances of me seeing the black lexus and the guys will never happen.

In New York a senior was in his shop in underwear when three guys broke in. he got his shot gun killed one and injured the other. the 3rd one got a way. those are the stories I like to hear. unfortunate that someone had to die but it was his choice to be a thief

Man I'm glad I don't live in a country where a good proportion of the population walk around with concealed weapons and think using it on somebody for a theft is reasonable. Not referring to the OP here,I think you showed great restraint. I do read many threads here though where someone says something like' I would a pulled out my piece and shot his ass' if he tried to steal my heli. Now that worries me. And there are people that think ALL high school students should be armed. Now thats scary.
Sorry to drag the tread off topic.

Yeah unfortunately our govt and media uses fear to motivate people, which is the reason for this attitude. If people actually knew the real statistical possibilities of death they wouldnt be driving on the highways or smoking ciggs.

And people with that mentality give the majority of people who carry, such as myself, a bad name. It its only to come out when life is in danger of immediate death.
