Default 60A Hobbywing ESC

Hello my friends,

does anyone know if the 60A hobbywing esc is holding a stock (non-stretched) Atom 500 back? In other words, would I gain something by putting a 100A ESC?

Thanks for any feedback and best regards, Stefan

Not really sure, but will have a Castle Ice 100 and 10 tooth pinion to try soon as well and start logging, but stock is working good for me so far (Non stretched, 9 tooth pinion)

You don't need more amps. Except when you go for a 10T pinion.

Good, thank you. So with the 10t an upgrade is recommended. Got it!

Yes, for a 10t pinion you will definitely need a 100A speedie instead of the stock 60. You'll get spikes up in the 80A to 90A range which will or can kill off your ESC faster than normal. It will technically fly on the 60A and it will likely last a long time, but it's better to be safe than sorry in this case.

Ok, understood. But would a 100a "feel" more powerful in a 9 tooth set-up or just provide more headroom for 10t? Probably not...

No, an esc dont restrict, with full pwm the motor grabs what it need and result is fire/shutdown When over amping to long. I had a cc75 until i replaced it with a hw 100, with 9t it was pulling up to 75a in tic tocs, but that is peak and the 60a can handle that fine.

Edit: if you don't get enough power I would check timing and pwm freq + batteries. I was running some very expensive batteries in the start which sucked power wise, with new batteries and 18ish timing on the hw it just started screaming.
