Should I run the ESC/BEC at 5.5 or 6V?
Tarot 450 Pro V2 FBL (1st build) Tarot ZXY Hitech HS5065MG cyclic (BTW the wires on the servos I got are only 6” +/- and too short for the Pro install, will have to get extensions) Futaba S92578 tail Hobby-Wing 40 A Platinum Pro ESC Might be a dumb question but I am a firs trimmer, when is it a good idea to up the BEC voltage to 6? Both the cyclic and tail servo seem to perform better at 6V and the ZYX fbl gryo will function on 3.5-9.0V. Will this be a noticeable drain on the Lipo or will everything just work better? |

The only reason to not run at 6v is if one of your components can't take the voltage. If they are all rated for 6v, go for it!
No noticeable increase on the drain on the battery. Everything will just work better.

Be aware that according to Futaba, the 9257 tail servo is only rated for 4.8v. ( 5v is what I run it at ) Its been said by some, including Bert Kammerer, that they can fly on 6v without any problems. but according to Futaba.. its 4.8v. You can, install a step down for the tail servo, very common thing to do..and run the cyclics on 6v if they are rated for it. Basically, you need to make sure all your electronics are rated for up to 6v.
As a beginner, you really dont need or may not even notice the difference between 5v and 6v. Once you get into throwing the heli around alot harder, 6v is better. The servos are slightly faster, and have slightly more torque. I'm in my second season on my 500's and fly them all on 5.0v from the bec for now, and I also fly the Futaba 9257 tail servo on all three helis. Its plenty fast enough.

If the tail servo does not like 6V, put a little device like this between your gyro and tail servo to lower the voltage for the tail servo. It's five bucks.

No need for 6v on a 450. Run at 5.5, no step down needed for the tail.

You are not going to notice any difference at all going with 6V. Plus even if the electronics are rated for 6V the slightly lower voltage will be easier on them. Won't it?

.2 isnt really going to matter at all. I have been running all my bls251's at 6.6 for countless flights, and no issues. Like I said. Run everything at 5.5 and you will be just fine. Trust me..
