Can any other type of wire be used for the battery lead instead of the silicone sheathed wires? As long as its equivalent gauge or maybe 1 the next gauge up? I'm looking for something more readily available.

Quick answer - yes
Slower answer - yes, but the silicone wire is best for the job because it is so flexible |

Can a larger gauge be used? If so, what is the max gauge that will work with stock motors?

The stock wire is 24GA. I always replace it with 22. I would not try to use smaller GA than 24. The 22 fits very well if you are good at cleaning out the holes. The wire is easy to get. I carry it in my store and dylan has it in his.
(smaller numbers = bigger wire) |

Increasing the wire gauge will not affect the motor. Just needs to be small enough to solder to the board!
I actually just replaced my power wires last night. Not sure what gauge...one size up from the stock wire is a good choice.

Changing the subject, but only slightly, what is the gauge of the wires that are used on the Steve converter and on the throttle wire that usually is soldered directly to the board?

Yes, you can use the adapter lead as a replacement power lead on the heli either by soldering it to the board having removed the original leads or by splicing it into the existing leads in place of the original battery plug. The adapter lead is available separately from the charger if you need to use the charger.
