I am new to AP, Set up for a T3i? HELP!

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all are having a glorious day/night. I am a cinematographer and I really want to start getting into AP/Cinematography and I wanted to know a good place to start with mounting a Canon T3i to a suitable helicopter. This sounds lame, but I kind of have some throw away money from jobs that I have taken and I really want to get my hands dirty and
start testing it out. If anyone could help me out and give me a breakdown or point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Adam,

Do you want to be a pilot or a camera operator?

If a pilot, then do you have any RC experience? Learning to fly can take a lot of time and money. Start with a small helicopter or a quad and then move forward. Have you considered a simulator?

The T3i I will be a great place to start to get you started. If you have no previous modeling experience you may want to either find a pilot or consider something different. The people I have helped learn to fly that were learning purely for AP have not done well due to they do not expand their skills beyond forward flight, and there forward flight abilities are usually weak. aka heli tangled in power lines or tree.

The better the lens and the better the camera the better off you are. I just upgraded my camera setup, and I'm very pleased. As far as camera setup, I normally shoot in auto because I move around sometimes the heli is pointed towards the sun and sometimes its pointed away from the sun and shooting in the shadow of another building.

For me I do not have a way to adjust the settings on my camera while it is flying.

If the t4i has the same autofocus system as the 5d mark iii you may consider an upgrade. The autofocus I can do with the 5d is amazing. I went from being able to use 20% of my photos due to a focus problem or exposure problem with my 40D to 99% with my 5d.
