Default slant main gear wobble

so i notice i have some slop in the main gear since i have put a slant gear on the helicopter. i just spolled it up and see the gear wobbliing around. i notice i can grab the main bear and pull it up and down slightly like there needs to be a second washer inbetween the main and auto rotation gear or something like that, any one else have this issue.

i was thinking maybe the snap ring was not on correctly and that was causing the play so i pulled the gear off and tried to push the snap ring down farther..

on thing i notice on the red main gear there was a little lip built into it where the auto gear would set on top, the slat gear does not have that...

well i noticed i had some of the 12.2 X 17 X 0.2 washers laying around that i ordered by mistake some time ago that took care of the slop in between the gears, i added 2 of them and it was to tight, and the gears did not spin, so i took one out so there is one extra washer in there and that was perfect for getting rid of the slop

but i still have wobble in the gear, at low speed when spooling up you can see the main slant gear wobble around, when the head speed gets up high it does not appear to have the wobble any more, and i dont feel any excess vibrations when touching the frame, when i put my finger on top of the beast x i don't feel any vibes.

what do you guys think, i have a feeling the gear is warped, a 30 dollar gear should not have the wobble or be warped. any one else get a warped slant gear ??

not sure if this is going to be a issue or not,

Have you taken the gear off and placed it on a flat surface?

I say a 30$ gear should be pretty dam perfect. I'm still waiting for them to put 2 gears in one pack. The price is not worth the upgrade.

makes me believe it isnt cnc'ed.

i can hear the difference in the air.

no problems otherwise.

When you cut away some material it exposes stresses with in the material

Its probably warping due to the cnc cutting, at work we have to stress relief parts before cnc machining or the parts warp, we also do normalizing heat treat , then a final machining.

It seems like being warped a little woild make the gear wear uneven. I was expecting a perfectly straighr and round gear. For as much as that damn thing cost compared to other brands of slant gears i cant say i am all that happy. I should have just stuck with rhe stock stuff

Well i wish u would have said something when u found that you were not happy with yours.

I just threw away almost 50 bucks on a gear and pinion thinking it would be a much better made gear, quiet and more efficient.

Life sucks

im happy with the inceased headspeed.....but yeah i can hear the variance in the gear.

But running a slant gear makes the heli that much cooler......i thought?

sorry man i dont wanna bad rap anything unless i have to.

I dont know, i think ot is good to post your experience with things and what u do and dont like about something that u tried out.

Seriously though, i am wondering if the gear just wobbles on spool up, maybe it is not warped. It it is i would think that i would see it wobble when the head speed gets up to speed.

I never took a good look at what the gear was doing at spool up when i had the stock gear on it.

I try to post about stuff , if it is good or not.

But there are a lot of hypocrites on here that say its bad to complain on forums, but its OK to bash forums from a podcast. Lol

I had a similar experience recently while setting up my x5. Using one washer there was that bit of play, two washers and it was too tight.
I ended up with just one washer and running the gear mesh a little on the tight side, and the play went away. Using the helical gear and 16t pinion, I have the motor far as it can go without modding the mount. Guess the pinion is tight against the gear enough to rid of the play. I never did look at the gear while spooling up to see if it's wobbling though.

my friend said his gear wobbles a bit till the blades get up to speed and he as the stock gear, so maybe wobble in the gear on spool up is normal.

i just did a test hover in my yard after i got it all set up again from the unexplained tip over i had the other day that busted some servo horns, got new servo horns, i lowered my swash plate so its has even travel up and down (2 turns shorter on the servo to swash links) reset up the beast x. and gave her a go.

as soon as it spooled up and the blades got up to speed i got a little scared and cut throttle, it wobbles a bit on my landing pad, i was worried it was gonna tip over again, so i gave it another shot and i did not see any thing funny happen and i flew it. one blade was at 00.2o of pitch at mid stick and the other was at 00.06 and the blades were way out of track, took it down and got them both at 00.02 ( with turn buckles i could get them both at 00.0) and the blades tracked perfect.

it was super quiet, all i heard was the motor and the blades. probably a good 40%-50% decrease in noise coming from the helicopter with the slant gear. still not sure what to think about the wobble in the gear at spool up.

My whole heli shakes a bit on spool up. Can't say I have paid that much attention to the gear.

If its decent plastic (delrin or such) it shouldnt warp under machining unless their cutting rates are too high and the part gets hot. Nylon is even more sensitive to this.

I dont think you can normalise plastics by heat treatment (or that you need to) but you do need to go fairly slow when cutting them.

we use a heat treat company here locally, not many can do this

it is low temp with ultra sonic waves

we cut g10, delrin, carbon, vespel, graphalite, monel

it all gets some sort of treatment
