My main complaint is that they are still not recommended for 12s voltage with a helicopter. When are they going to make a reliable 12s BEC?

Just wire it for 6s... the difference in ma pulled is about 1%. Every BEC on the market has issues stepping down from 12s, I have heard stories of all catching fire and/or failing... however there are thousands more from CC which are in circulation.

I always add a 4s 1200-1400mah pack for my flight back
that way i'm not tied to the batteries driving my motor
and a 4s pack in this size last ALONG time with minimum weight

I thought that the Pro was 3s minimum or it would not be reliable and the standard CC BEC was ok at 2s voltage.

This is really confusing because the new Product page now says that it’s ok to use the BEC Pro with 12s on helicopters if you disable the brake.

You will also see that the 10 amp is for 2s to 6s and the Pro does not list a minimum voltage so that’s a big unknown.

After discussing the issue(s) with a Castle technician and Clint Akins, is seems that the only difference between this 3rd generation BEC Pro and the 2nd generation BEC Pro is the outer shell; the electronics inside are the same. Castle reassured me that the BEC Pro can safely work on 12S, but made it a point to tell me that all of their pilots are running it on no more than 6S (first battery). Reading in between the the lines, I am interpreting this as, "do not run it on 12S". BTW, this is the same technician who reassured me that the 4.0 version of the ESC firmware was awesome, only to have an advisory less than a week later to either "upgrade" to 4.01, or "downgrade" to 3.xx. 4.0 is not even offered anymore.

These are pictures of the 3rd generation BEC Pro, front and back.

People need to learn that castle products do not do well running at their Max. For. example if the esc is rated for 12s I would put no more than 10s into it. We went through this with the boats for years. I wouldn't dare try 8s on the regular Ice controller even though they are rated to run it. Same goes for their bec units.
