Hi guys,,
This is my first post and hello from UAE!. I started heli flying with the Mcx, followed by the CX3 and finally the MSR. I can say with confident that I can fly a rc heli. I also have experience in flying rc gliders such as slow stick and sky walker. I already own a gopro which i have mounted on a sky walker to get some pics/videos, however now I want to move onto a heli and I need some advice. Am looking for a heli which can pick up a gopro easily with a mount and is easy to use for a noivce/beginner user like me. Therefore I would appreciate some feedback as to which heli i should go for and what budget we will be talking about. Also what do you people think of quadcopter for someone like me? Thanks |

A 400 or 450 class heli can carry a GoPro with ease. One thing to keep in mind with the GoPro is that it responds poorly to the vibration regime of a heli (particularly a smaller one like a 450), so the results will be inferior to what you had on a glider.

thank you for the reply.
I have been looking at 450 videos on youtube and they do get some good shots, you are correct about the vibration. However if I go for a bigger one for example like 500 or 600 class, would that reduce the vibration? Also what sort of electronics will be most suitable for 450 or 500 class. for example which esc, motor and servos, and batteries would be good? And what flight time are we talking? |

If you already have the basic heli skills I would pass on the 450 class. In my opinion the 500 is the way to go for you. It flies a lot more stable, it's more visible and can carry more. Also when you crash the repair cost is still low. For sport flying you should be getting about 8 min. on the 6s 3300mAh pack. Go for the stock Align T-Rex 500

thank you guys for getting back to me.
Last but not least, what motor would you recommend? Or whats a good setup for a trek 500 which can lift gopro and be stable at the same time. I need to know which batteries, esc, motor and gears, gyro would be most suitable. Thanks |

Any motor will be fine for the 500 in terms of lifting power it will have more than enough. However, you might want to gear it for a lower RPM to extend flight time and to find an RPM that the GoPro is happy with. Have a look at the 500 dedicated forum to see what gear combinations are available and are being used.

hmmmm, thank you guys for the feedback, trex looks good but accordingy to my local rc shop, they have suggested me to go for a quadcopter!! Now I AM CONFUSED for sure!!
So guys what do you think? Also if i do go for a quadcopter would it be easier for me to fly compared to trex-500/600? Also I understand a few quads are cheaper than the trex but I am not sure what to do. My whole idea is to put a gopro and get some pics/videos taken, not really interested in 3d, and would like to fly even if its windy and want something which can give me more flight time.. I have looked at a few quads, like gaui 360, and even the x525. There is a local guy selling x-aircraft 650v for $580.00 Includes the following: X650 Carbon Fiber Version 1 x X650 Fuselage Frame(Carbon Fiber and CNC Aluminum Alloy, 850g) 1 x X650 Body Cover 1 x X650 Landing Gear(Carbon Fiber and CNC Aluminum Alloy) 4 x Outer Rotor Brushless Electric Motor 2 x 12-inch high-strength propeller (positive) 2 x 12-inch high-strength propeller (anti) 1 x FC1212-P Flight Controller 1 x AHRS-V2 Attitude Sensor 1 x X650 ESC-A4 High-Speed (UltraPWM) Electric Speed Control Device 1 x XAircraft USB-Link PC Connector x1 1 x Flight Control Management(Parameter Adjustment) Software Extension Accessory Uniaxial Camera Mount:In stock 4 x High-frequency cushion blocking(load < 180g) 1 x Camera shutter(Glass Fiber and CNC Aluminum Alloy) 1 x Tilt head Camera Mount(Glass Fiber and CNC Aluminum Alloy) Electronic compass: 1 x 3-axis electronic compass: Work with GPS Modul so what do you think guys? If I should go for quadcopter which would be good for beginners and I could put the gopro on it later on once I am an expert!!! |
