I've spent too long trying to master basic flying skills and though that Flymentor might give me the edge I need to master basic skills.
I will be installing it on a 450S clone. I have a Detrum GY48V gyro that seems to work fine for my skill level. Would you recommend I use Detrum GY48V gyro along with the Flymentor gyro or just use the Flymentor gyro without the Detrum GY48V?

Six of one half a dozen of the other in your case. If you are comfortable with the one you got and don't want to get involved in extra setup issues so keep it but be aware you may not have the extra channel available for remote switching of FM. This is not a problem if you want it to be on all the time. Hope this helps.

I have the same Gyro, if you are comfortable with it keep using it. The FM gyro can be a real pain to setup and worst off, things like reversal and revo mixing has to be done on Helibal or FM's field card. Which can be a pain.
I had the external going and switched to the FM gyro but it was way too time-consuming. Right now my new Futaba radio doesn't seem to like FM a whole lot. |

Don't know your gyro so won't recommend any solution. But I went towards two gyros. On tail cheap HK 401b + FM gyro only for swash. Tail I had already set up so I didn't want to mess with FM settings. Pure laziness, I know.

Personally I am not a fan of the piezo gyro, in any form. I just hung a flymentor on a build I just did for a friend of mine who works over in the embassy at Bankok. The FM tail gyro is barely acceptable. So I hung a Kds900avcs (memms gyro) I have used on my own projects over the years. I actually liked this gyro as much as my quark.
Back on subject, it transformed the heli. And made it far far easier to fly and in a sense even more stable, since now the tail is locked in. So for a beginner just learning how to fly. I effectively reduced one axis he will not be having to fight while learning. It is hard enough as it is. So if you have a better tail gyro, and especially a better servo. Use them! |

I have Flymentor installed on my T-rex 480. Gp780 align gyro is holding the rudder. Never tested the FM own gyro only for stabilization. The Radio is spektrum dx8 and works very nice.
