I just got my sr huey. Not my first heli and im not a noob to helis by far. First off i unpacked it and the body was cracked. Horizon made it right with me and is sending me a new body for free. So now i have this cracked body i can use as a spare right? I bound it to my dx6i and took it for its first flight. I spooled up and it started spinning to the left. I spooled down and trimmed it the opposite way. Spooled it up and slowly lifted off the ground and tried to go higher and iy started spinning quickly. So i landed it fast and the front of the canopy bounced and hit the blades and shredded. That made me sad
so i came to the conclusion that the tail motor is shot out of the box. So i cut the rest of the body off and cut through the wire to the esc that goes to the receiver. Needless to say don't cut corners and do things the right way lol you may regret it. Well either way everything for the huey is on back order. So that sucks..... not impressed. But sometimes you get a lemon out of the box. I wad looking forward to flying it. Now i must wait a few weeks posted this in the wrong thread earlyer, apparently my phone choose where i was going to post it... |

Had the same problem with mine and it was the pot on the 2in1 unit. Just need ajust this pot before lift the heli because you have to much or not enought power on your tail motor. You can find this procedure in the sr bible i think

You'd think with as long as the SR has been on the market that they'd fix a few things about it.

i took a gamble with the sr thinking it was an ok heli, but no, i do not like the sr. ![]() |

As a fellow noob i can tell u it takes a long time to become one with your SR and no what it needs and how it works! Got mine in feb of this year and am just now understanding how it all works and set up! Its not for everyone but if you have the drive give it another shot!

I can't speak for everyone here but probably a lot, the tail on this thing is horrible and I spent way too much money on this thing in the last year in repairs because of it. I also could never get the tail locked in, no matter what I did. Those 2in1 mixing pots are junk, mine was, sounds like yours is as well.
Now, there is an answer to your problems. Get yourself a $12 Detrum GY48V gyro, $9 here http://www.xheli.com/60p-dy-1017.html remove the existing one, turn that mixing pot off and you will see all the difference in the world. It was pretty breezy here today and I hovered for 5 straight minutes and that tail didn't move more than 2 inches side to side. It is a totally different heli once you get rid of the stock gyro and mixing pot. On the Detrum I have the Delay at 50% as well as the Limit and it holds very well. It's probably not what you want to hear but as others here have already stated it works. Glen

you would think the g110 would be a better gyro, but I guess 50 bucks more doesn't make it better.

Sell it lol. Yeah it takes some work to set it up. I should have put my money toward a huey scale body and a trex 450 lets put it that way.... i hope something is just screwed up out of the box. A heli like this shouldnt be this hard to set up or fly.

well, i got a new gyro on the way, my 2 in 1 was junk, got that taken care of, it flys but it wags like crazy so im going to try out this detrum gy48v gyro since its only $26 shipped.i have gone through a few bodies, blades, and feathering shafts.... apparently you cant land this heli very hard, it doesn't like that lol. im bound to get this thing going, i wish someone would make a belt tail for the huey body, im not a big fan of the separate motor driven tail. its just not natural
i got a nice new body on it got it hovering great and i got it about a foot off the ground and went into idle up and the tail blew out and i freaked out and hit hold, it slammed to the ground and blades and body parts (of the heli lol) went flying everywhere.... upon replacing the feathering shaft i did some custom washering to it to get it to not be so sloppy feeling. i have the little washer on the allen screw, the tapered washer thing then the bearings, another tapered washer thing, and 4 narrow washers before the head, and exactly the same on the other side. any thoughts on the stiffer o- rings for the head? i dont like how the blades tip so much. i want to do as much as i can to remove as much slop as i can from the head. i was thinking aluminum swash and blade grips, i havent looked too hard yet but i ant to find a aluminum head set up im not a big fan of all this plastic. |

My two cents....
No reason for a new gyro, aluminum swash or blade grips. As several on this site will tell you, the SR will definitely fly with stock parts when set up correctly. The substitution of harder dampers do make a definite difference in reducing boom strikes. My best advice is to search for the John Shipley posts regarding proper setup of the esc pot.....one set up correctly, the SR will be much easier to handle. Also, training gear might take some of the shock of those unexpected rough landings. Ken
