Default Settings for Scorpoin motor and HW ESC - Help please

Hello

I have a Hobbywing Platinum 40amp ESC, which I am using on my Trex450 with Scorpion 2221-10 (4s setup).

I have no idea what settings to use for:

1. Timing: 0-3.75-7.5-11.25-15-18.75-22.5-26.25 (default is 15 degrees)

2. PWM Frequency: 12KHz or 8KHz (default is 12KHz)

I am currently using the default setting, but have a very slight tail oscillation. When I was using Koby40, I did not, so I am guessing it is because of incorrect setting.

Would appreciate your feedback

cheers, Khan

Use whatever the manufacturer recommends at adjust from there if you have issues. Here's the link to the motor you have from Scorpions website.

http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalo...22/HK-2221-10/

Scorpion says 5 degrees timing and 8khz PWM. Since the HW ESC's dot have a really fine adjustment for timing, try the 7.5 timing setting first. If you can run a data logger that would be great to find a baseline. Then try it at the 3.75 timing setting and see what your results are.

Not to put a spanner in the works - but i posted the same question in the Scorpion forum, and the consenses was that if you dont have a Scorpion Esc, just leave the timing and PWM at the default value. You might see your HW Esc going up in flames. Just my 2 cents.

Well I've been running a 4035-500 on 8khz for about a year now on a Logo 600. Works like a charm actually, and no magic smoke after 100 flights or so now. ESC temps are around 115-120 routinely after 4 minutes of banging around.

Leaving the PWM at default would not be a good thing at all in my opinion. Every motor is slightly different. Finding the right setting for your motor is crucial for optimum performance and longevity.

Default my 2 cents

I asked the same question on another forum and even Mr. Mel said the same thing. Leave the HW HV ESC’s at their default settings with scorpion and align motors. Your fire risk goes way up if you mess with the phase and timing settings. Mr. Mel used to change the timings as well, something made him change his mind. Can’t imagine what that could be?

I'm just speaking from my own experience with these ESC's and motors. Fredrik knows a great deal more about them than I do for sure.

Hi, running this HW120HV with scorpion 5035-560kV motor. The combo came down pretty hot especially the motor. Settings are default except startup is 'very soft'. I am thinking of increasing the timing. Will I see improvement?

Are you using an external gov (i.e Vbar gov or SK gov)? If you are you need to make sure you have v2.0 h/ware (ESC) and the latest firmware installed for it to work correctly with the Vbar and SK gov's.. With the old hardware the ESC will overheat as it cant process the gov. requests fast enough. Ive just had to send one of my HW120HV ESC back to be replaced with the v2.0, as i discovered I had v1.0 hardware after noticing the motor and ESC were coming down very hot (using SK gov)...
