Why do the stock woodies have a bad rap? Every time I check the COG (of a packaged pair) and the balance they are just about perfect. Other than they're not good for 3D why all the hate?

I don't really know either? If you are just flying circuits and basic flips/rolls they do just fine in my opinion. I will say that for the cost of them there are must better alternative but since they come with the kit you may as well use them.

I only have experience with two sets of OEM woodies, and both sets didn't track well; I found them inconsistent. For the price, I've found the EXI FRP blades to be far better for my needs. I am also trying a set of the EXI CF blades this week just for the heck of it.
I guess the woodies get a bad rap from the plastic wrap that peels, the tracking issue, etc. It seems quality may vary from one set to another, so perhaps so do personal experiences with them.

+1 on the blade tracking
I don't have a lot of experience on this and have only ever used stock wood blades. But lately I've been having serious tracking issues. Just about every time I go to fly I have to re adjust the tracking!!! At least this has been the case for the past two weeks. The humidity here has been up and down which I think is the cause of my tracking problems. I just ordered three sets of CF blades for $6.50 each from HobbyPartz. I'll see if that fixes my fixes my problems. If so I may become a woodie hater also

I cannot buy woodies for that here in Canada, I just paid $75.00 for 1 set of CF blades.
I don't mind stock blades, but I must say I do like my new blades better.

They better be one hell of a good pair of blades.

Woodies are slow and cumbersome. I flew the stock set until the tracking was off. I put a set of CF blades on after that, and what a difference that made! Cyclic is crisper and more responsive. I'm not a woody hater, but, to be honest, I've only used one set. I wouldn't buy another set. They are great for starting out, but you get more from CF and even fiberglass blades.
