Default vbar or cgy750???

Just wondering which fbl gyro to run on my whiplash. Im pretty sure bobby watts uses the cgy750, but I was talking to mike fortin and he told me to run the vbar silverline because of the sensor failures in the 750. Just wanted to get your opinion on the matter cause I cant decide which to get.

Vbar...

Recommendation from a multiple CGY750 owner who watched his fellow fly vbar at the field on same machine.

Futaba seriously messed up this time.

Comment from a long standing futaba fanatic( well their radios and servos are still super)

The new HV servos are soooop smmmoottghh and I love my 8FG. I posted in the Mikado forum that I've great luck with the 750, but will be trying vbar shortly.

Does anyone know more about all the FUTABA CGY 750 sensor failures that MIKE FORTIN is reporting?

IS there a Futaba sensor problem that we are not aware of?

I have four 750s and they all fly fine, no issues with any sort of failure. I am looking to try something different with my electrics, not as happy as I was a month ago, but still good units. Not quite as locked in on my 450 as I would like. Seems as I chased a "minor" issue, the result was a loose feeling in all other aspects. I'm sure it could be adjusted out, but I am going to try something else just for giggles.

My nitros fly really, really well with it and I don't think I'll be changing those.

Haven't heard or read of any sensor failures.

Sensor failures? Say what?
Dunno about that, but I'm very satisfied with my CGY750, it's a great unit, it is really tweakable, you can make your heli feel really robotic or flybar-like

I've got two CGY750s, and only have two flights so far. It wasn't anywhere near properly set up so I can't really comment. I love the fact that it has everything on board and everything is so easy to tweak from the 8FG upwards via SBUS.

If you ask the question every 6 months you will probably get a different answer.

I have a CGY and it’s ok but not the best.
I like the new SK540 or vbar best myself. They both feel the same in the air and are very easy to setup and tune. The SK540 has an easier to setup governor for electric’s if you are using that feature.

I had 3 failures with the 750 sensor in the course of a year.

I do not think that this is a bad system, it has it's bugs and they are being worked on and I think in time that it will be a viable system. Futaba is an amazing company and has amazing products and support, the 750 does work well and I enjoyed it for quite some time but have decided to try something else in terms of FBL systems. I still love my 8FG and the S-Bus system is flawless.

I have decided to fly V-Bar Silver and while they do utilize the same sensors I believe a very good part of how well they work is based on the firmware and algorithms that are written for the device.

Mikado has a clear advantage over their competition as they have been at it far longer and have gone through every growing pain that they possibly could and this has made the system #1 by design at this point.

As technology progresses others will undoubtedly be able to have such great performance as the V-Bar does now...but then imagine where the V-Bar will be at that point.

The current state the CGY is in does not speak so well for the future of the system, Users are totally clueless about wether there will be a firmware upgrade to sort out the various problems. No communication what so ever and loyal users and enthusiasts defect to other systems and second hand selling price plummet.

A small notes indicating if they are working on something and the progress of it would be nice.

From the point of the Futaba company, they have made the investments in machinig to make the hardware, getting the software right should cost way less money( if time spent needs to be much longer). with the current states the system is in, I doubt theres much more sales coming Futaba's way.

Instead of waiting for some kind of big event lauch of 1,3 and keep silence before lanuch, they would be better off just to release some information even its a long ETA or release date, This would at least stop second hand units price falling so fast. Imagine if there's no communication and all of a sudden the 1.3 comes out and assme its good firmware, there will be a huge stock of super cheap second hand units laying around. IF this is to happen, How much more units Futaba can sell when the second hands are both cheap and plentiful??

And if they totally skip upgrading this one and pull out something like CGY850, just look at how Align did with their 3G, 3GX. Rember Futaba don;t have the ability to bundle sale the electronics with combo kits.

Yep, just some info to know that the CGY750 is still alive! Even if it's simply "1.3 is being worked on, and it will be ready when it's done, but we cannot say when", that will let us know that it's a still improving FBL system.

Not very official, but Futaba responded to someone's facebook message saying they're working on 1.3 to address the current issues. No ETA though.

Seriously, get a vbar. I am early adopter of cgy750 and during last two years never managed to make it fly right on my mini protos.
It's either too twitchy or too dumb in the centre of the stick (too much expo feel), all sorts of elevator wobbles etc. The manual is really badly written and there is no real support from Futaba, it's been almost a year since they released an update. I have learned the unit in and out during these two years, but as I said heli doesn't feels right at all, no matter what I do - the concept of flight modes doesn't work at all. It flies decent at best.

To be honest my 130x flies better and more stable than my protos and I blame cgy750 for that.

I still fly the unit, but I am almost fed up with it and will be changing it soon unless Futaba releases a) easy to use PC based software with agility and style settings so I can tune my heli without guessing how 10 or more parameters interact with each other b) fixes all the bugs and wobbles. Somehow I doubt it's gonna happen.

I know people have more success on big machines, but on smaller one like 450, I think cgy750 is a waste of time.

Amen to that! Recreate the basic software setup like that and you don't even need a pc, just use the GUI on the device. Leaving the advance setup menu way it is would be fine if they did this.

After flying all summer with a variety of gyros I think that the new SK540 is the way to go. It’s definitely my choice for 3D.

Futaba has a long way to go before it’s an easy to setup and top performing 3D gyro. They seam to be very slow at making improvements.

Both are good. I've always used cgy750 and yes it is more difficult to tune but once you get it figured out it flies amazing! The other big thing to me is customer service/ repair. I sent a Futabs cgy750 in after a crash out of warranty and they fixed it free of charge and had it back in less than a week here in the states. Good luck with mikado support. I did buy a new vbar but hope it doesn't have an issue bc mikado customer care is really non existant here for us western folk. You'll spend time and money and it could take a month to hear from them (don't personally have experience but know people who have). Cgy750 updates are free, mikado is not. I am trying a vbar bc Ive heard such great things about how they fly, but will never replace my 750s bc of the time I've put in learning the damn thing!

That someone was me! And I'd say that was quite official.

Still waiting...

Here's how Futaba works "out-of-the-box"

Heli was setup without swash leveling tool and even without pitch-gauge (LOL)
Dunno what are you all grunting about, but I really, I mean REALLY love the unit and never had a problem so far. (BTW I'm in no way related to Futaba by any means, I just like most of their products)
