How to canopy Painting
I made multiple stencils out of paper. Painted a blue background first. Put down a circle stencil and shade in what you want to make the round planet then a stencil for the rings shade to your liking. As for the stars if you turn the air pressure way down on an airbrush it loads up the tip with paint and when you quickly pull the trigger it splatters paint. Just do that over and over till you get the amount of stars you want. Check out YouTube search airbrushing planets. There is a ton of info.

First paint
Hi there,
One friend make fiberglass canopy for my heli and I like maybe possile airbrush, you post is very help, but I have ones questions, in my country not can get the primer white only gray, and I think mabe used this first and and fine tune the canopy, and then apply spray white matt or glossy white I think better the matt but not sure which one to use, and possible use this as a base. But I don't sure this. For the design and this paint with airbrush acrylics paint and the finish used spay gloss. I aprecciatte you help and attention. Thanks, Luis. |

Grey vs white
Luis
You can use gray no problem. I actually like using gray so when I paint the base color of white I can see that I am getting a complete cover. Use the same paint you will do the rest of the painting with and use flat. Easier to get an even cover with and the clear in the end will give you the gloss you want anyway. Just may thoughts. Best of luck on the painting. Thanks Brian was fun doing it.

I'm about to start my first airbrush canopy and this thread helps out. But I'm kinda on a budget and can't spend nearly $100 for one color. What other airbrush paints are good? and the best clear coat? That I can pay more for.
Thanks.

A hundred bucks for one color? No way!
Nine to twenty bucks is more like it. I really like the Auto Air stuff and you'll need a bottle of their 2012 reducer. Here's one source. http://www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com/autoaircolors.html Here's another: http://www.tcpglobal.com/Airbrushing...irbrush-Paint/ You'll have to use a 2-part (catalyzed) polyurethane clearcoat that you can get from an automotive paint supplier. Figure about $50 for a quart and you must wear a respirator when shooting this stuff or you'll die!

Thank you so much for this. I did buy some Faskolor 2oz bottles and I'll give that a try as I know it worked very well for an rc truck body. But I will order this for my second canopy I currently am building. As for reducer, is this what you mean? http://www.tcpglobal.com/AAC4012-4Z....0#.WTn6yMI2yCg

So I did look up Faskolor paints and see they're formulated for use on Lexan car bodies. I'd be pretty cautious about using this particularly with a urethane clear coat, if that's your intention. For heli canopies, you should be painting over primer and I am not even sure how the Faskolor would bond? I'd suggest using some old canopies to test on. I have a couple. I've also got 4 or 5 threads in this forum that may be helpful?
