Default How do you oil the stock motor?

To oil the stock motor bearings, as I've seen a lot around here lately.. do you need to take the motor apart or not?

As you probably guessed the answer is YES.............

No way to do it and be sure.... other than getting oil all over the place. Might as well check the bearings for play while you're at it.

I use Lube 1 made by Slick 50 it's a higher viscosity than triflow.

I just put a drop in through the top and a drop in from the bottom and call it good.

"Well from the above post, maybe I've been doing it wrong, I just figured the oil would wick itself down into the bearing."

Thanks 91TALON! I like your answer a LOT better! I'll at least do that.. I think I'd rather buy a new motor then to take it all out and apart for oiling.

Would standard 3-in-1 light general purpose work ok?

I don't know... I just use some lightweight machine oil I picked up at the hobby shop a while ago.

Edit: I'd bet 3n1 would be fine, just use it sparingly. Whats the worst that could happen?

I use 3 in 1 oil and put a drop on a straightened paper clip to guide the oil to the bearings.

OK.. but where ARE the bearings? Can you see them? I assume there are two sets? Top and bottom? Do you take out the motor to do this Wolf?

The top bearing is visable when looking down into the motor.
That one is easy to get to while still in the heli using the paper clip method or a long pointed nozzle.

The bottom bearing cannot be seen while in the heli.
It's pretty tricky to get oil to it while still in the heli.
That's why I use the paper clip to get down between the motor mount and pinion gear.
If the paperclip is touching either the pinion or mount the oil will not get to the bearing.
It takes some practice and I still miss every once in a while.

Default Oil It up

I use a syringe I got from my son where he works. It has a plastic hose in it , really work great. I switched the hose with a pray can nozzle tube. Like the one on a air can for dusting .Now I can reach in there and oil it up .

not that ive found...the tri-flow "pen" applicator sold by ready heli works friggin awesome....can drip just the right amount in there...i usually give it a drop or two before flying and another 3-4 after a good 8 batt session
