okay so maybe it just a bad design. mine looks to be riding all the way on the left side of the tail gear and then it ruds on the top and left edge of the tail case

I just built a rex 500 with a torque tube, I wonder if there is a way to install a tail with a torque tube on this machine?

It's cool.......instead of a belt its more like a drive shaft......let me see if I can find a pic for ya.

found this online......if not clear enough, maybe I can take a pic of mine tonight.

I don't know, first I've heard of them myself and all I can say so far, is I LOVE IT. very smooth and no tension to mess with let alone the wearing of the belt on the side. We'll see how time goes if I still say the same.

Shaft Driven tails have the advantage of being more efficient. They cause less drag overall in the drive system, and thus allow more power to be used for flight. Or Autorotation if need be. Equipment will also run cooler due to the higher efficiency....Although that is debateable. The first version of Esky's King and Cool helis were shaft driven. I had a HB Cool that was a wonderful little heli. The shaft driven tail was very reliable in it as well.

Good to hear, thanks for the input. I wonder if they are/were too expensive to crash/repair, maybe thats why they got away from them

I can feel less drag and have only hovered it for 2 mins, so I will report back when I get more flight time on her.

I'm wondering if there is a simple way to put the rex 600's torque tube tail on this heli ? I will check into that after I have more experience with them as well.

Torque tube has its pros and cons. Yes it makes for a more efficient power train, but it's like gaining a fraction of a percentage in performance per $ spent. Another big time strike against TT is it strips easily, even a small TR scrape will do you in. I had a TT on my trex 600 and one thing I did not like about it is it makes an already tail heavy heli even more tail heavy. (another $110 lost in a crash) There is no possible way of adapting a TT drive on the E-smart, it needs a custom cut tail drive gear system and the stock Trex TT system will not fit in the E-smart frame unless somebody here redesigns a new frame.
