Default ICE 50 and Align 450m hot motor

Hi, I have a 450 pro with an ICE 50 and the 450m motor. After flights my motor comes down hot, not warm but hot. It is a new motor. I have the Ice 50 in normal heli mode with most of the factory defaults, except for I turned some elements down because according to directions it is better for efficiency and heat. I run a 0-80-80-80-90 throttle curve and 45-50-60-75-100 pitch. 13 tooth pinion. I am also using a 40c 2650mah battery. Any ideas?

Don't use outrunner mode for the PWM frequency.

Instead choose either 8 or 12kHz. Either will probably be ok.

Ok, I am using outrunner mode so I will see if that helps.

still hot, I have tried all different setting nothing seems to help. Do these motors just run hot?

How hot is "hot"? What feels hot to you might not feel hot to me...

Anyway, you need to get a temperature reading on the motor.
IMO anything around 125°F or cooler is fine. If it's much hotter that might indicate a problem depending on ambient temperatures.

I don't have access to a to gun but it is hot enough you don't wantvto touch for more than about 5 seconds. I have tried all different kinds of settings( governor mode, end point mode, different throttle curves from flat to linear). Anyway I don't think it's a setting problem or a pinion problem since alot of people run that without issue.

I am going over to A Main Hobbies tomorrow and try out a quality battery. I use the 40C Sky Lipos and did not have any issue with the old cheap Exceed motor. But maybe the new 450m and Ice 50 don't like the cheap Lipos. If that is the problem I will have to take back the good things I have said about Sky Lipo's. But we will find out tomorrow.

I doubt it's the battery.
Make sure the ESC timing isn't too high.
Also make sure the pinion/main gear mesh and belt are not too tight.

That said, the Align M series motors seem to run hotter than most. My 600M runs about 140-145°F in the summer without any other issues. If I'm not mistaken the 450M is also known to run on the hot side, but I have no experience with it.

So, your temperatures may well be within the normal operating range of that motor but we have no way of knowing without actual temperature readings. I'm sure 125°-145° is too hot for many people to hold a finger on for more than a few seconds.
But again, that's all subjective...

if its hot enought to burn you it could be a bad motor bearing, i remember touching my friends motor after a flight and it burned my finger, turned out to be bad bearings, the esc was even getting really hot..

Ok maybe they will have a temp gun at Amain. What is a good operating temp for that motor? What is a good operating temp for the ESC? My Esc has been averaging 135*F.
