Default Trex 250 Build Videos by Jasmine

OR is the build thread good enough? I think it's pretty good and will be using it on my build. The reason I ask is because I want to see some interest before I do it. If you've watched my Blade 400 videos, you know I have a tendency to go way overboard with the details, and it takes me quite a bit of extra time to do these videos.

Anyway, if you want build videos, please post and let me know what kind of details you want to see and what you think I could skip over. I hate doing a video and then finding out there's a common trouble spot that I didn't show.

Part 1 - I did a quick un-boxing video showing what comes in the Super Combo.
Trex 250 RC Helicopter Unboxing (15 min 33 sec)

Video Link -> Part 2 - Assembling the rotor head and flybar cage.

Video Link -> Part 3 - Servo installation

Video Link -> Part 3b - Servo Setup

Video Link -> Part 3c - Radio setup (Spektrum DX7)

Video Link -> Part 4 - Installing the main gear, shaft.

Video Link -> Part 4b Installing the Motor

Video Link -> Part 5 - Tail Parts

Video Link -> Part 6 - GP750 Gyro Setup

one word of advice....get a tripod stand....

if you do decide to do some build videos, you want the camera to be 100% still, also a thing to look into is to improve the lighting, the room you took the video in is dark.

i think doing videos would be a great idea, however i have no interest in the Trex 250 because of its size.....

Yes definitely... that's how I did my Blade 400 build vids... tripod and lots of light. Yeah it's tiny... so it might be hard to show anything worthwhile, but my camera does have pretty good focus - about 3 inches is the closest you can get, which is just amazing given the way things were just a few years ago.

You should give one a flight or two. They are loads of fun!

As for the vids, who knows. I'm sure some people would benefit from it!

Thumbs up

I'd love to see a build video for this. Hopefully you'll get it done before my kit arrives

Yeah I'm working on it now. Thing is... it does make it take longer for me to build it, and I kinda want to get it to fly sometime soon

What do you mean? There will probably be 5 or 6 videos total... just keeping them in the first post in case the mods want to make this a sticky... hint hint

+1 Jasmin. why wait for the videos when you can do them yourself.

Yeah I figure, I'm building the thing anyway, might as well film it and try to explain what I'm doing. I have learned many tricks from Finless and others that I've never seen explained on video, and I've got a few tricks of my own that are simply worth mentioning, like how to magnetize a screwdriver and how to mount those little servo nubs without having to use any of The Seven Words you can't say

Hey, can I get some basic starting reference radio setting for my DX7 for my 250 combo?
Will you be posting a radio setup video...keep them coming, they're great so far.

The tricky part of the radio setup is in the servo installation video. When I'm done with the rest of the videos, I can take that part and the other stuff and do just a radio setup video.

The following things need to be set:
In the model setup screen (when you turn on with the two left buttons held down)
1. Set it to type "Heli"
2. Set the name you want
3. Set swash type to "3 Servos - 120*"
4. On the "Input select" screen, set AUX2 to Aux2, and GEAR to GYRO
5. In "Thro Recovery" set INH
6. Trainer to INH

Now go into the regular programming screens and set things appropriately. Most of this will be personal preference. For servo reversing and swash plate mixing, watch the video, it's hard to explain, but my method does give you two simple steps to get the swash moving the right ways.

I do not know how I will set up the gyro screen yet because I have to fly it first - your numbers may vary from mine anyway, and the best way to get it set is to understand how it works and learn to adjust it yourself.

Do not set any Revo mix
I use the "Gear" switch for throttle hold, and set it to -5%
Preliminary set up on throttle curve for normal mode is - 0-40-65-80-90
I set my idle-up throttle curves to a straight 90% all the way across (personal preference, may increase it)

I set my pitch curves straight for now, and will have to actually measure the blade pitch to decide on final numbers. Very important though, to set the pitch curve for throttle hold mode to a straight line from 0 to 100%. This is required for correct servo setup and swash plate leveling. Again, see the video.

Added the main gear, shaft, and motor video to first post. I'll have to wait till Monday to upload the rest of the videos because I'm out of Vimeo upload space this week, but it seems I'm able to get these on Youtube as well, so might be able to put them up there - we'll see.
