Equpment recommendations..

Hello,

First of all, I just want to say thanks to all of that contributed in this Gaui forum. I've learned so much lurking the halls since I'm a total NOOB. Really a beginner when I comes to flying as I find it more enjoyable building these small helis.

Question is what would you recommend in regards to:

1. Cyclic servos..just purchased Hitec HS5045..will these do?
2. Tail Servo
3. Gryo

Already have stock motor and ESC with my kit.

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

The stuff in my sign works great. The 290g is a great tail servo.

Rooted MT3G + Cyanogen Mod 6.1 + Tapatalk = WIN

Maybe cheaper for you as a beginner to use the hitec 45's instead. There not digital as the one's you've mentioned and cheaper.

You will crash lots, so every penny's gona help

My No 1 suggestion....don't skimp on the tail.

Minimum I would fit would be the SJGD mini one ($70 Turnigy Mems rebrand at Hobbyking). But you are probably better off to shell out the cash for either a Quark or a GY520.

A new in pack Align GP750 may be a good less expensive option as well.

Tail servo...JR290, Hyp DS11GCB or Inolab 201HB are my rec. Personally I use the 290 but if I were buying today would probab go the Ds11.

When these servos were first released many found (on *******) that the 11 was better on the tail than the 09 even though the spec is the same. I believe the 11 has an 11mm dia motor and the 09 has a 9mm. Seems the 11 was more able to provide the speed at a given torque.

On another note I hope MKS venture into smaller servos.

There is a digital version of the hs45, but the hs45s aren't digital. I looked at the digital versions but they are the same price as the Hyperion DS09s which has much better specs.

A agree with everyone that fighting cheap stuff on the tail isn't worth it. Been there, still doing that.

I found mine for 17 a piece, online brand new
digital servos
im running a dx8 and a ar7600 11ms frame rate.

I tried to go cheap as a newbie, bad mistake, I spent more time fixing then flying
now with good parts I fly more than troubleshoot, fix, repair, replace cheap parts that didn't last, didn't work well

Looking at your signature line for digitals, you got the Hyperions for $17? Where? I need some.

What's the difference between the hyperion SCD, AMD and GMD digital servos? Which would be best for the gaui 200?

The G is fast, like for a gyro.

The S seems to be for 'normal' where the A was for abusive situations I read somewhere I can't quote.

The 2nd letter C stands plastic gears and M for metal.

I was installing my DS09s tonight and the plastic spacers for mounting servos solid sprung the ears on the cases pretty bad. Worrying about if it would break later I decided to check and see how much a case cost. Then I found out that Hyperion doesn't sell replacement cases. Never expected that, so I didn't look. I wish I hadn't bought them now.

Trying to sort out tail gyro choices. What do you think about the GY520 vs. GY401?
If Quark is preferred, which model?

Hopefully someone else will jump in and confirm that I'm correct. The Gy520 is the better of the 2 futaba gyros.

I don't know that the Quark is better. There is a setting on the GY520 that people say helps on the small helies. I don't know of diffrent models of Quarks, but they do come in different cases. I chose the Quark because the GY520's manual says you can't use it with a 72mhz system.

here are what the letters mean:

A- Normal torque and speed
F- High Torque/Speed blend, Mod Current
G- Ultra high speed
H- Very high speed / low current
S-High speed/med torque/low current
T- high torque / less speed
U- ultra high torque / lpw speed
C- carbon ploy gears
M- metal gears (primarily)
P- plain bearings
B- top ball bearing
D- twin ball bearing

xT- coreless motor, extreme torque (compared to std type at similar speed)
xS- coreless motor, extreme speed (compared to std type at similar torque)

using this my DS09-SCD's are:

9 gram servo
S-High speed/med torque/low current
C- carbon ploy gears
D- twin ball bearing


The DS09AMD is:

9 gram servo
A- Normal torque and speed
M- metal gears (primarily)
D- twin ball bearing

and the DS09GMD is

9 gram servo
G- Ultra high speed
M- metal gears (primarily)
D- twin ball bearing


you can see why I chose the SCD over the AMD. I wanted speed on the cyclic, there is enough torque for my application, and I wasn't concerned with metal gears here.


for my big bird,

DS 20 FMD's:
F- High Torque/Speed blend, Mod Current
M- metal gears (primarily)
D- twin ball bearing

Got another question on the Quark config-- I noticed that there is a metal version and a plastic version, and the FAQ at the Quark site says that in some cases the metal version, while 2g heavier, may be heavy enough to be used without the extra metal mounting plate to isolate vibration.

So with the JR servo, are you using the metal or plastic Quark? With or without the metal mounting plate?
