my friend dumb thumbed a trex 550 from 20 feet today. One minute hes scraping blades inverted on the blacktop, next hes tail in upright hover and dumbthumbs it straight in Trex 550 doesnt crash well, both side frames destroyed, servos ripped out the carbon on the top half, motor exposed due to the sides breaking so bad and the motor was stuffed full of mud, plus all the normal stuff.

Wow, that sucks. I'm very grateful for how well built the Outrage 550 is. I've only had frame damage in one out of 6 crashes. Most crashes were just tail boom, some pitch links and servo horns. I've still got my spare set of G10 frames (and they're a steal at only $16/side).

I STILL LOVE this heli.

Have you realize the the 550 canopy is the ONLY canopy out there that has the general shape of a capybara head?

I am saddened... why?

1) that you sold your Outrage (you got me into Outrage!)

2) that you never got a custom painted canopy of a capybara head.

Because... look at the shape of the 550 canopy! And look at this photo of a capybara! With a little painting skills... you could have a REALLY unique looking 550.... (Dominic's nickname is Capi.. and see his avatar?)

I'm sorry to read this. I really don't understand the reasons you give for getting rid of it. To me, if a heli flies differently, that's a reason to keep it. However, I don't possess any near the skills I've seen displayed in your vids, so what do I know. The 6HV will serve you well.

This year, my 550 is now dedicated to one and only one task: learning inverted flight. I attempted some inverted last year, but just couldn't get the flight time I needed to master it. This is year will hopefully be different. It'll be tuff, my sim is not working. I know I'll have several crashes, already had one, but I am going to conquer it.

Who else will be learning something new with the 550 this year? What are you going to learn?

I found that to really progress i need my helis to be consistent day to day and flight to flight, that is not possible with a machines that fly drastically different from eachother. The 550 was a great machine, but flies very different from my 6hv so it had to go.

I think Im going to go FBL with my Outrage 550. I finally put a Sk 720 in my Logo 5003D and love the difference.

Ive seen quite a few OR 550's for sale lately and they dont seem to get many hits. I guess a model that came out in 2009 is considered old now or something

I really want a big heli, was going to get a Century gasser but I like electric helis and lipos get cheaper and cheaper

Ive got 3 ,550 bladed helis,A Swift, Outrage 550 and a Logo 5003D. 2, 620mm
TT e620SE's and a 450 Beam E4 that I just a Beam FBL head for and pre bought one of the new Sk540's FBL about to be available. The Beam has just been sitting and I hope to get enthusiastic about it again. I also have 2 JR Parkmites an mcpx, MSrx and a bunch of FP Guru, Compy stuff

I dont like to sell my stuff and the only thing that would probably sell quickly is the Logo. The new Logo 700 is supposed to be announced soon. The logo XXtreme is Xtremely expensive...Maybe a Compass 7HV I dont know which way to go

Sorry for the rambling. I just remember how excited I was when I preordered my CF Outrage 550 and had to wait and wait.

the price difference between a 450 and the outrage 550 is like 200 bnf right now on the used market? My 450's fly like crap compared to the outrage 550. And its big so I can see it. Ive never crashed a 550 once due to dumb thumbs (only mechanicals) over 2 seasons. I crash the 450 weekly , usually due to loss of orientation.

heres one of the worst non crasheng flights ever, something was wrong but I forget what so I kept trying to figure out what was up.

Hey SV,
Contact Ace Helis about your canopy, I believe he will paint anything.
