Default NiZn Batterys

Guess I posted this before in the wrong place. Has anyone had any experience with the NiZn Batterys.
I was looking at using them in my TX (DX6i) as they wouild give a higher voltage than the Ni-Mh cells that I am currently using. Ni-Mh have a cell voltage of 1,2v where as the Ni-Zh cells are 1,6v per cell. As the DX6i has only room for 4 cells using the Ni-Zn would give me a total voltage of 6,4v. Could 6,4v be too high for the TX or will it handle this, anyone tried this??

I believe the transmitter section runs on 3v or there abouts, so higher input voltage wouldn't increase range or reliability. I know the DX7 uses linear regular to drop it down to 3v. If the DX6i is the same increasing the pack voltage would just make it run hotter.

I just switched over to the Sanyo Eneloops in my DX7 (from an A123 pack). So far the results are quite good. The Eneloops have very low self discharge and hold much more capacity than the stock cells.

The other thing I would be concerned about is charging. Because of the higher voltage I believe the NiZn cells would need a special charger. So you could not charge them with the DX6i wall wart.

Thanks Greg, You are right about the charger, would need a special one and one thing I dont want right now is yet another charger sitting on the shelf. I was not aware of the TX needing 3v, so not rearly much point in making the change though I will take a look at the Sanyo Eneloops.

AFAIK NiZn are a gimmick, only any use on devices designed to run on Alkalines (all reasonably high-draw devices are designed to work on NiXX these days).

They have considerably less capacity than NiMH cells and most people report fewer than 50 cycles from them (compared to a couple of hundred easy from NiMH).

There are some consumer devices which are designed to operate on 1.5v alkaline cells and will not work with 1.2v cells. I have a camera (a gift) like this and its irritating that it cannot take rechargeables.
