I just want to throw my question in here, are the two models similar in size in regards to visibility?

The are similar in size and most likely visibility. I did order a Fusuno Revention Canopy to go with the kit from nankinhobby.com:

That canopy is sweet. Oh yeah, you'll love the helicopter, too.

Nice canopy, although I like the stock one, that's pretty visible already.

Cheers!

You're considering the Align 500 but not the Prôtos?

Of the 2 you picked, the Compass all the way, but I still prefer the Prôtos.

I did consider the Protos 500 as I know it is also an excellent heli but the kit was flybarred out of the box... you had to buy the FBL kit. One thing I liked about the Atom 500 though was its beautifully machined head... I thought it was a work of art. Incidentally Deep Purple's Machine Head is a favorite album of mine from back in the days

The atom is nice , I did not care for the stock motor , you may want to look for the new Synergy N5 (550 size) if you like good quality it's another step above Align and Atom...

I bought an EXI 500, converted to FBL, and it's 90% Align now. Flys beautifully, but if I had done more research, I would've gone with the Atom 500 instead.

Not to totally sway either of your two choices, but just speaking from experience, I would look at the Atom 550 version. I say this because it'll save you some money in the long run. We all say, this is as big as I'm gonna go in size, then what happens, we want that 700. If you buy a 550, at least you can pair up the flight packs from the 550 for use on that 700. Judging by the radio you have, you're already planning ahead for more models and you're going to want that 700 at SOME point. Just my 2 cents.

COMPASS ALL THE WAY!!!!

Trex pro canopy is taller. Visibility wise, I don't really ever have problems with that so I can't say. But you can get the 5.5 canopy which is a little bigger if you want it, and 6hv canopy will fit with new holes drilled but it really only looks right with the stretched boom

Please tell me that was not the only reason you didnt buy it? The FBL kit is about $30...

Tough choice there.

I thinned the fleet and kept the best.

Whoa, that looks like controlled chaos Nice to know the Atom 500 can take such abuse and keep on flying.

Waiting on the 6HV v2 here myself. Compass makes some good stuff and looking at models first hand I can tell some serious engineering thought was put into the designs.

The Atom 500 (5hv?) is a great machine as many have commented.

The other nice bonus; having a direct link rotor head free of design flaws (Sorry guys, had to). The original, and still the best.

It's Gaui all the way, or Compass.
Align isn't my bag.

The Atom 500 has a belt without automatic belt tensioner, though. This means that you'll need to adjust belt tension every time when it's cold. I think that's a pain.

Plus, the T-Rex 500 Pro looks FAR sharper

I fly mine in cold weather (and winter) and I've never had to adjust my belt due to it.... I run my belt just slightly loose to begin with.
