Even stock it's not to bad, 50% of the time after a unplanned landing your good to to go,
and even if you strip the key way of the C gear , $2 and 10 min. and alls well. Some stronger gears would cut down on bench time. As it is it's a big improvement over bouncing a 450 and flys as well. Can't wait to see what the after market somes up with.

![]() The design has to have a weak link and I don't think that these C and D gears are a bad choice. I can usually get away with about 2 or 3 ground encounters of the unplanned kind (fast on the TH) but then they finally give out. I have also started to put a light coat of CA on the TT shaft before I install the C gear and this seems to help the crash resistance quite a bit. If the gears aren't the weak link then the grip arms and slider are next in line and I really don't want them to create a problem here since these parts are pretty expensive in comparison to the tail box gears. Hope this helps..... |

I'm fine with sacrificial c and d gears, easy to replace compared to A or B gears.

My first thoughts were I would make a Slipper Clutch for the tail. A member on RC Groups has been making them for Waleras for a fairly long time I believe and most really like them.
Checked Thread and first ones in Jan. it seems Here is the Thread .Post #4 has a demo. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1577528 With 62 flights on mine I have yet to have a C or D gear move the least little bit. Aligment is still perfect on both as per my Witness Red paint markes placed on them before the first flight.. Last edited by everydayflyer; 08-10-2012 at 01:23 PM.. |

I don't know if that slipper idea is going to hold up to any real hard 3D move and to be frank the demo doesn't really show much of anything. If this design could go from a full negative sideways (tail down) negative pitch move to an abrupt stop to positive then I would entertain this idea (but I really don't see that happening). I've actually been able to fully separated the swash (yes, the swash) doing this move on the 130 X and the tail holds fine until it has separated and all swash control is lost. No friction design like this is going to hold in that kind of abuse. Sorry, but I'll pass on this idea....

However I keep pointing out not all of us are into hard core Smack 3D. I am 67 years of age and enjoy FFF circuits, loops rolls ,flips and piros. A slipper clutch could save the tail gears if TH is applied shortly before going into tall grass or even just when landing on purpose in not so short grass.
IMO if one wants to push the envelop and fly smack then damage and repairs are just a part of the game. I have watched some extremly good heli pilots plant thiers from time to time. That is just not my thing. I have aircraft that are many years old and some with over a thousand flights on them that have suffered non to extremly little damage. If I want to Dirt Flirt I use a cheap disposable flate plate fomies and if I want to fly a heli past my comfort zone I will use one of my mCPXs as they bounch so much easier and about the worst that happens to them is a bent feathering shaft. |

+1 I agree, something's gotta give, have gotten pretty good at replacing them in a hurry.
