Default DX8 Throttle Curve or Monitor bug?

I am wondering if my new DX8 has an issue. I programmed the Throttle Curves (Flight Mode 1) so the maximum throw is set to 90%. When I go to the Monitor Screen and set the throttle stick to the max, it only shows 80%.

When I enter 95% in the Throtttle Curve as the max, the Monitor will go up to 90%. Only when I set the max Throttle Curve to 100% will the Monitor show 100% when I move the throttle stick to the max.

This may be related to the issue I had when following the "indoor setup" guide for the mCP X which sets the max throttle curve to 66. At that level my mCP X would not take off even though I also followed the guide to level the swash plate and pitch (blades).

There could be a couple reasons. Please upload your SPM/model file here as an attachment and Ill have a look.

Thanks for responding aerocal!

I have attached the spm file with the settings I programmed:

Specifically for F Mode 0 (not F Mode 1 as I mistakenly typed above), I entered the ff:

Throttle Curves (F Mode 0):
Low: 0%
25%: 40%
50%: 60%
75%: 80%
High: 90%
Expo: Inh

Please note that at the above settings, when I go to the Monitor screen and monitor my Throttle movement, it only goes as high as 80% instead of 90%.

I also programmed my Pitch Curves (for F Mode 0) as follows:
Low: 50%
25%: 50%
50%: 50%
75%: 75%
High: 95%

When I go to the Monitor screen and move my throttle at max position, the Pitch only goes to 67%.

I guess I am not fully understanding what exactly these figures on the Monitor screen mean. Hopefully you or someone can explain. Thanks again.

BTW the settings I have entered were patterned after the video I have seen made by indoorHeli to make the mCPX as a more beginner friendly FP Heli. I had to adjust my Throttle and Pitch curves from those recommended by the video so my mCP X could take off.

From what I can see you have done everything right.I dont see an error in the file.Ill send it to someone who will know the answer.Ill let you know. For now just adjust the value in the menu that gives you the output you want as verified in the Monitor.

Oh yeah I forgot.Part of the issue with your pitch is that you have the Travel for pitch set at 75-75. Run it up to 100-100.I still see some value discrepancy.Im looking into it more.

Thanks for pointing that the travel servo on my pitch was set to 75%. I did not notice that. I should probably mention that the SPM file for my mCPX was initially loaded from the DX8 Setups file I downloaded from Spektrum's website.

I just reloaded the original mCPX file for V1 & V2 (30MCPX_.SPM) to an empty slot and verified that the Pitch was set for 75% travel (???). No wonder my mCPX was not taking off when I followed the online guide in youtube.

I still have the issue where the monitor would show 80, 90, 100% Throttle when I program a Throttle Curve of 90, 95, 100% respectively. I just verified this by creating a new Heli profile and set up the throttle curves (nothing else).

Geez I probably shouldnt be trying to think today.Im kind of trying to get over some kind of bug.

What your seeing is correct.Travel on a channel goes from 0-100 in both directions from center. The % value in the curve menus is based on the entire travel. So 100% of travel is actually 200 points of travel on the monitor. 50% would actually be 0 on the monitor.90% would be 180 points or 100-0-80 and would show as 80 on the monitor.
Again for your pitch issue.Move your Travel settings for Pitch in Servo Setup to 100-100 and the numbers will match up to what you would expect.

Aerocal, thanks a lot for your explanation! I did reply and thanked you earlier for pointing out the pitch issue which, as you correctly pointed out was set to 75%. However that post of mine has not appeared... maybe because I am new here and I entered the wrong response to the anti-spam random question.

I forgot to mention that the mCP X setting I am using and which I have been modifying was based on the Spektrum 30MCPX__.SPM file I downloaded from their site. I loaded that file again in a new setting on my DX8 and indeed it sets the Pitch travel servo to 75%. No wonder the mCP X would not take off after I followed the video guide on the video... the pitch was inadequate in combination with the throttle curve.

I am thinking of starting over to create a new Heli setting from scratch for my mCP X.

Too much pitch can become a problem with the MCPX.It will definitely teach you good collective management. My MCPX setup has the Pitch travel at 100-100 but my ST1&2 pitch curves go from 20-80 so they are actually not giving much more pitch than having the travel at 75-75 and the curves at 0-100.I found that any more total pitch than that will just make it bog and if you get a little behind and put a bunch of pitch in the tail is right on the edge of blowing out.Throttle curve pretty much 0-100 in Normal,80% flat in ST1 and 100% flat in ST2.I cant really tell much rpm difference between 80&100% throttle but it does give a little more power and less bogging.

Its a fun little heli especially inside during the winter.Plus it takes a heck of a beating with little damage.

Thanks for the info aerocal! I was setting up my Vbar governor and was getting crazy low values in the program. Strange they would set it up this way.

Cheers,
Andy
