Default Another newbie but not really

Hi all, first post, comming back to my choppers after a 15 year layoff- Bay Area guy. 13 year old son saw my Shuttles on the shelf and said lets get those down. Its amazing how much has changed. Spent the last couple of weeks going through the nitros maybe fire up this afternoon. Every avalible tablet hour has been spent here or browsing ebay for a deal. Bought the WL fixed pitch family to get my legs back under me (911,912,913) alot eaiser than I rember. Wish be luck on the shuttle's maiden hover. I would say for us nitro guys "kick the tires and lite the fire" but no more nitro for me. Plan is to make them two sport fliers and work my way through the Blade family with a Spectrum 6 and Phoenix Sim. Just one question. On the Spektrum trans. Should I buy more than the 6. I am more of a sport flyer for now. I like to fly the choppers (and fix wing) how they would really look flying for real. I guess more scale than 3D. Thanks for all the info and the great reasouses.

Hi and welcome! Certainly the heli world has changed quite a bit. I am a relative newbie so I started out with "modern" electrics. The following might help you get up to date on some things:

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=720316

About the TX I have the DX6 and I love it. It does have one major flaw though and that is that if you let it run battery dry for too long the internal TX card will be damaged (!!!). So you don't really need more than 6 channels, although on larger birds they say 7 are required for some functions. I don't plan to go bigger than a 500 (maybe a 570 really pushing it) and still a long ways from those so I have not done much research.

If you can afford it I keep hearing the DX9 is rock solid and has a rechargeable battery that should avoid the issue on the DX6. You can also mod the DX6 for a LiPo battery and avoid this issue, but it is still something that if you forget to turn it off or something you are in bad luck. There is also a stock NiCd battery for the DX6 as well which might also solve the issue.

Good luck!
