NEHC 2012 Phenom Sept 14-16 Mansfield MA
2012 Heli Phenomenon
Fri. Sept. 14th – Sun. Sept. 16th We will have much more information in the following weeks so save the dates and check back here for updates. As usual there will be many Pro pilots, raffles and events. Last year was a big success with over 100 registered pilots, a world class group of sponsored pilots, *the* best night flying ever(!), "wreck the raptor" where we got it at last!, a spectacular raffle courtesy of our sponsors, space for RV's, many many spectators, and more than $300 donated to Fisher House! The location will be the same as the last 4 years. The entrance to the field is located across the street from 408 Elm St., Mansfield, MA 02766. There is a map on the NEHC web site www.Nehelicrew.com and we will be posting more information there as well. John Walsh - New England Heli Crew |

Sounds good. Out of curiosity, how big are the flight boxes? I've had a lot of problems with pilots (especially the pros) flying into my airspace at other events. I would gladly walk farther or have fewer flight stations to have more room.

Last year, I'm guessing they are approximately 200'. Not really suited for anything other than 3D. If you want to respect your neighbors airspace, open air flying is pretty limited. I also fly at a local club that host airplanes, and their 380' runway is still tight for nice open maneuvers.
My flying style is a mix of both, and I have a hard time flying at events because of the limited 200' boxes. I'd do some 3D in the box, but then after a minute or so I'm out of ideas Give me a little open air to mix them up, and I can get in a good 5 minutes of interesting flying. The NEHC field is unique in that there really are 3 separate flight areas. If you fly at the stations on the right which are less crowded, you can fly more open since you don't have as many pilots and can can typically use the unused flight boxes on next to you. That opens it up quite a bit. The main flight stations are pretty busy all day long. Not sure how this year will be compared to last as I think the turnout will be a significant increase over last year. Its a real good crew of people, and if you bring up your concerns, I'm sure they will listen and try to be very accommodating, maybe even factor something in for subsequent events.

Thanks guys, glad to hear it. I haven't been to your field so I wasn't referring to the last Phenomenon, just to be clear. I'm used to flying left to right by myself in a 40 acre field with zero obstacles, so being put in a box is painful!

Less than a month away!!!
I was doing some measuring on Google for the PA system... Our main field is about 1000x500 feet so 10 acres if my math is right. The two other fields are about 5 acres each. So who's planning on coming? |
