Before I bought mine, I emailed Hitec to confirm that the 5084mg would work with DS mode on my gy401 at 6V, so I ran mine at 6V for a while. I don't know whether it's causation or coincidence that the servo lasted less than a year.

FWIW, Futaba s3154s are/were rated for 6V as well, but IIRC would go up in smoke in DS mode.

Ultimately, I decided that I was not enough of a stickbanger for the extra volt to matter, so I reprogrammed my BECs for 5V and called it good.

I just spoke with Hitec and they said the HSG-5084MG can be run at 5 1/2 v but 6V is too much. They sure do need to clarify this stuff better because had I not run across this thread I would have ran it a 6V and probably would have fried it. Thankfully my UBEC has a 5V option so I should be fine.

so according to hitec it can be ran on 4.8v, 5.5v 6v and yet it can only be run on 4.8v but some say 6v at hitec...GEEZ....CONFUSED. i think the answer is folks to use a diff brand tail servo or run it at 5v and live happy if you have the option.

cheers

5V is no good on a 400/450 either, I guess it can be a good tail servo for 250 size only.

Why is 5V no good on a 400-450? I'm running at 5V on my 450 Pro and with about 75 flights so far she fly's fantastic.

We are talking about the Hitec 5084+Quark combo yes. It took about a month and a half for mine to fry itself, would say about 50-60 flights. It was always quite warm/hot to the touch at the end of flights.

With the Quark even my JR3500G is warm after a flight. Please put your finger on the servo after a flight and feel it for temp. Always ran my tail servos on 5.1V on my Blade400.

I haven't yet had a reply or replacement from Hitec, still waiting, so can't tell you what is up.

tail servos normally get a little warm-thats why not many 8v tail servos exist!

they work far harder than cyclic ones with the constant moving so they heat up quicker on a tail than cyclic.

cheers

Ive checked my HSG-5084MG several times with a laser thermometer after 7min +/- flights and its never over 85* F. Its usually between 75-80* F unless its a really hot day. So far the highest Ive clocked it was 85* F. Like I mentioned previously, I contacted Hitec specifically about this and they assured me it can be safely run up to 5 1/2V but not 6V. If in doubt, call them your self, they answered my call on like the 4th ring.

All I can say is if you start seeing the odd unexpected tail wag it will mean the end of the road for that servo. Luckily I managed to bring her down just before the servo locked up completely.

BTW what gain are you on.

My last words for this one ---- Since all the previous events I have used the QUARK with the align DS520 on 2 of my 450s, then recently put a quark onto the back of my new 500, with the DS520 tail servo again ---

*RESULT*
simply the finest tail I have EVER had the privilege to use- EVER

SPARTAN, I owe you an apology - the QUARK is EXCELLENT ALL ROUND

just don't ever use the HSG-5084MG with it
and if you have to, test like crazy first!!

Summer is coming to the UK - gentle breezes & light 'til 11pm - COOL

BLUE SKIES GUYS!

I don't know, but I've been running the 5084/Quark combo @ 6v and 1520/333 on my 450 for a year with no problems. Servo temp feels like ambient.
I do remember that when the 5084 first came out, there was that issue but thought they corrected it. That was supposed to be one of the "improved" features vs the 5083 which is a 4.8v servo.

From the date of the first post, it could be it was corrected since the first post. This thread is pretty old.
