Bag 9 - Rotor Head Assembly - wmv 77MB

Pretty straightforward - bit unusual in that the bearings are assembled onto the spindle and then the grips heat shrunk onto the completed assembly.

Swash to grip links very robust and adjustable with turnbuckles - swash driven by two radius arms and ball links to the inner swash.

Default New - Minicopter Diabolo Shaft Assembly

Next up the boom and tail gearbox assembly - pretty straightforward. Very simple and elegant gearbox with a novel boom securing system and also an innovative use of a toilet roll tube to stop belt slap

Default New - Minicopter Diabolo Build Videos

Motor mounted up here and assembly of lower frames - pretty straightforward - needed to machine a further flat on the Scorpion motor to accommodate the pinion and vital to get correct engagement with the pinion

Default New - Minicopter Diabolo Shaft Assembly

Here's the actual first build vid - assembly of the main and intermediate shafts and gears onto the right upper frame. Very precise machinging and goes together like a dream apart from the belt pulley which was a little tight - I have discussed with Gerd and he's going to increase the tolerance - we're talking hundredths of a millimetre here !!

Notable is the one way which is not on the main but the internmediate shaft and consists of TWO one way roller bearings mounted end to end ! Otherwise not much of note apart from the large alloy belt pulley for the tail drive.

Note: The 1.5mm spacer goes between the intermediate gear and the belt pulley on the intermediate shaft and not between the belt pulley and the bearing block as shown in v1 of the video - been corrected in v2 !!

Also note the locking collar has been replaced by a spacer

Video 2 - Shaft Assembly - wmv 118MB

Here's the tail rotor assembly and linkage including the innovative pushrod supports - no real surprises here - the tail is similar to the Joker 3 but has detachable CHinese weights on the tail blade screws.NB The original build instructions showed the thrust bearing between the radial bearings - in the latest advice it is shown on the outside.

Default Review - Minicopter Diabolo Build Videos

Minicopter been around for a long time producing uber-quality boutique helicopters - well known for their ruggedness the Joker series have found favour with those in the AP line of work and those who want a fine German engineered and produced quality helicopter. What is not so well know is that he Joker3 has regularly given the TDR a good run for its money in German Speed Cups and taken line honours on a number of occasions.

The Speed Cup win by the Diabolo at IRCHA 2011, narrowly beating the TDR by a whisker put international focus on the Diabolo, which incidentally is named after a childs spinning top and a particular hunting bullet! ANyway I put my hand up very early on for a piece of the action and was excited by my Diabolo arriving yesterday

You lucky dog!

I will be looking forward to this one as the others boutique heli build vids you have done are always a delight!
By the way, you are responsible for me buying a Srimok N and a TDR which I wouldn't even have known of. It will be interesting to have your insight on this heli versus or rather besides the TDR

Thanks for putting up a video so quickly.
I too would love to hear your views on how it compares to a TDR?

Looking forward for more, when you have time.

Any ideas WHEN the canopies will be shipped ????
I got mine yesterday, no instructions, no canopy

I'm very appreciative you are doing the build thread, otherwise, I would be scare of messing up the build. Looks like it is an easy feat

Subscribed John.

Nothing like watching an accurate build of a high quality heli.

Maybe one of these days when I win the lottery, I will own a "Diabolo".
