Bootcamp on a MacBook Pro allows you to use full video power, unlike Parallels, which downs your video. I use Bootcamp and a MacBook Pro and find that it works perfectly.

Bootcamp comes with OSX, though you will need to have a copy of Windows.

Look for the Boot Camp Assistant in the Applications/Utilities folder.

I use bootcamp to boot win7. It is super easy to setup.

Here is a great easy to follow guide:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/boo...tall-setup.pdf

If you can print that out before you begin or have it pulled up on another device.

You must use Windows Vista or Windows 7 with Mac OS X Lion's Boot Camp. It does not support XP, although any Boot Camp partitions created with older Mac OS X versions will continue to work.

Boot Camp is the ultimate in compatibility for Windows apps. It has been said many times that most Macs running Boot Camp make better PCs than most PCs do. The down side is you lose the ability to use any Mac OS X applications until you reboot. You can get a System Builder's copy of Win7 Home Premium for less than $100, although you don't get support from Microsoft with that version.

Aerofly is nice, but there are a few niggling issues I have with it. The first is the lack of a ground-in-view mode. The second is its high resource usage; don't count on doing anything else with the computer in the background while Aerofly is running.

Parallels or VMWare Fusion will allow you to run Windows inside Mac OS X, but you do lose a little performance and graphics quality (e.g. no antialiasing, so object edges are jagged). Phoenix runs quite well in Parallels on my mid 2010 i7 MacBook Pro. Phoenix also runs well on the Mac mini connected to my HDTV; since I also use it as a weather station server, I don't have the option to use Boot Camp without losing real-time weather data.

If you are going to want to use RealFlite or Phoenix Sims (or any Windows based sim), I do recommend Bootcamp. I also have VMWare Fusion (and a legal (!) copy of Windows XP Home), and have run Phoenix within it, but I prefer Bootcamp, which is just a partition that directly boots your Mac into Windows, so it is running as a "real" Windows PC, not a virtual machine.

My Mac is a ~2 1/2 year old Macbook with a 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo with a NVidea GeForce 9400M with 256MB of video memory--I give this simply to reference your machine to.

On this machine, I think the VMWare Fusion running has a slight lag. Or at least I feel that Phoenix in Bootcamp running is a bit snappier. Better computer hardware might make up the difference, but Bootcamp will always be faster than a virtual machine.

But Bootcamp is free. You do need to have a copy of Windows at the time you install it.

To install, go into the Utilities folder (in the Applications Folder) and click on the Bootcamp application. It will allow you to repartition your hard drive. You may first need to run disk utility to clean up your hard drive (I did), and if so, this you need to launch from your original OSX distribution disc. Not sure how it works if you have a Mac without the DVD drive.

If you are running Lion (OS10.7), I think you have to use Vista or Windows 7---there may be some trick to still run XP, I'm not sure. I am still running Snow Leopard(OS 10.6).

You can also enable a VMWare Fusion, and I think Parallels too to also run from the bootcamp partition (as a virtual machine), which is a nice feature if you don't want to have to continually boot the Mac. But of course VMWare or Parallel isn't free.

This is probably enough for now!

I use Parallel's with Win7 installed and use Phoenix. I'm on a spec'd out 27" iMac so it works very well for me.
